About the Wine

Chateau Tour Maillet comes from an acclaimed family of Vignerons called, Vignobles Lagardère. Shortly after WWII, the Lagardère family settled in Pomerol where their family tradition of winemaking has continued over the course of four generations. Today the estate is run by Gaël Lagardère who continuously strives for excellence by continually making improvements to ensure that every vintage is acclaimed.

Gaël produces wine using sustainable agricultural methods and eco-friendly practices showing unwavering respect for the environment.

Jean Philippe Faure, a consultant working for the Michel Rolland Laboratory, gives expert advice on wine-making processes and grape-growing.

Aging: 12 months in 50% new French Oak.

Tasting Notes: 100% Merlot. Brilliant purple color. The bouquet is both powerful and refined, expressed in oaky, fruity, and spicy notes in tone with the region and the vintage. The palate is balanced. Its warm character is underpinned by the roundness of the dark rich fruit and very elegant tannins.

Reviews

Lots of blackberry, blueberry, violet and sandalwood character on the nose. Full-bodied, layered and velvety. Juicy finish. Structured and rather plush in nature. Give it three to four years to open. Best after 2027. ~94 James Suckling

A fleshy, opulent, textured Pomerol that stays nicely balanced and pure, the 2020 Château Tour Maillet (Lagardère) reveals a deep ruby/purple hue, lots of ripe red and blue fruits, classic notes of loamy earth, iron, tobacco, and violets, and outstanding length on the finish. ~92 Jeb Dunnuck

The 2020 Tour Maillet (Lagardère) is a big, heady wine. Super-ripe dark red fruit, espresso, chocolate, spice and sweet French oak infuse this plush, voluptuous Pomerol with a good bit of nuance. This is an especially opulent, flamboyant Pomerol packed with ripe fruit and copious new oak, and yet all the elements are very well put together. Best After 2025 ~92 Vinous Media

Butterscotch on the opening, plenty of enjoyable berry fruits, chocolate and liquorice and a sleek gourmet sign off, with a touch of chocolate shavings. This is not going for subtlety, but it works. ~91 Decanter

Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 Tour Maillet is a little oaky to begin, giving way to a core of kirsch, black raspberries and mulberries, plus touches of underbrush, Sichuan pepper and pencil shavings. The medium to full-bodied palate is also wearing its oak a little heavy, revealing a core of crunchy black and red berries with plenty of spicy sparks and a very firm, sturdy frame, finishing woody. ~90 Wine Advocate
