About the Wine

Chateau Talbot is one of the most famous estates in Médoc and certainly one of the best values in Saint-Julien.Bordering with the Pauillac appellation, this historic Châteaux dates from the 15th century when it belonged to the Marquis de Aux.

Since the 20th Century, this beautiful Châteaux has been the property of the Cordier family, an important Bordeaux negociant. Today, Nancy Bignon Cordier is leading this project with great respect for the land and wines.  Châteaux Talbot is one of the largest estates in all Bordeaux with approximately 250 acres of vineyards. It has been classified as a 4th Growth since the 1855 Grand Cru classification.

The 40+-year-old vines produce high-quality wines thanks to the spectacular terroir with soils composed of fine gravel, the supervision of rockstar Eric Boissenot, and the work and passion of everyone involved. 

At Château Talbot, they perfectly combine both the past and the future; respect for tradition and technological evolution live in perfect harmony. The outcome of the combination of techniques, soil, and the people who passionately work it, is wines loaded with character, harmonious, and complex with the promise of beneficial longevity.

2018 was an amazing year in Bordeaux's Left Bank, Vinous Media, Robert Parker, and Wine Spectator blessed this vintage with a 96-point review. Wine Spectator said the wines show "terrific drive and definition"

Reviews

Strong ruby, light ochre reflections, broader brightening on the rim. Notes of candied orange zest, ripe fig and currant with delicate smoky noble wood in the background. Juicy palate with a sweet texture, ripe blackberry conserve, round tannins and a chocolaty touch on the distinctly long finish. Already accessible and has certain ageing potential. ~93 Falstaff

The nose is elegant, and racy and offers power as well as precision. It reveals notes of ripe cassis, pulpy blackberry and small notes of bright raspberry associated with small touches of bigarreau cherry as well as fine hints of juicy/fresh plum, nutmeg, spices, a racy minerality, an imperceptible hint of incense, tobacco and grey pepper. The palate is fruity, fresh, mineral, well-balanced, beautifully built and offers gourmandize, tension, freshness as well as a beautiful definition, precision, suavity, a small fat and elegance. On the palate this wine expresses notes of bright blackberry, juicy/ripe cassis and small notes of bigarreau cherry associated with hints of mocha, cardamom, nutmeg, subtle hints of grey pepper and caramelization. A finish on notes of toasted, caramelization and a very discreet hint of vanilla. A persistence on notes of cocoa. ~92-93 VertdeVin. 

Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, herbs and cedar. It’s full-bodied with elegant tannins. Fleshy and well balanced on the palate. Beautiful, pure fruit at the finish. Second wine of Talbot. Try after 2023. ~92 James Suckling

The 2018 Connetable de Talbot has a fragrant bouquet with black cherries, blueberry and light crushed stone aromas. The oak is nicely integrated (15%). The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and plenty of freshness on the structured, graphite tinged finish. This is simply the best Connetable de Talbot that I have tasted. ~89-91 Vinous Media
