About the Wine

Château Plantey's vineyard is in a fantastic location in the famous Pauillac region, just a stone's throw away from top-notch wineries like 1st Growth Château Mouton Rothschild (only 1.4 miles away), 5th Growth Château Pontet-Canet (just 1.2 miles away), and 5th Growth Chateau Lynch-Bages (a mere 1.5 miles away). That's seriously impressive!

When you hear "Pauillac" and consider this location, you already know that prices can be incredibly high. However, that's not the case with Château Plantey, and that's precisely what makes it even more impressive.

Here's some interesting history: Château Plantey used to belong to the De Gerès family from Loupes, who were big shots in Camarsac. In 1958, Gabriel Meffre bought the vineyard, and his son Claude Meffre, who had a career in journalism, took over in 1996. At first, he managed their other estate, Château La Commanderie in Saint-Estèphe. Then, starting in 2000, he took charge of Château Plantey. This family really knows their stuff and takes care of every detail to produce these fantastic little gems.

2019 was an outstanding vintage for Pauillac. It was awarded 97 points by Vinous Media who said it is "Unquestionably a Left Bank vintage. The sweet spot is in Saint-Estèphe and Pauillac, where so many wines are exceptional to profound, at all levels in the hierarchy of terroirs."

Aging: 12 months in vats and barrels with 25% new barrels.

Tasting Notes: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Merlot.

Reviews

The small estate in the heart of Pauillac has produced this rich wine, half-and-half Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It is full of promising tannins, black-currant flavors and spice from wood aging. Drink the wine from 2024. ~94 Wine Enthusiast

Gorgeous aromas of blackcurrants and fresh flowers follow through to a medium to full body with round, integrated tannins and a flavorful finish. This shows poise and focus with polish. 50% cabernet sauvignon and 50% merlot. Try after 2025. ~92 James Suckling

Red plum and blackberry aromas combined with dark chocolate, spice and herbaceous notes. Fine grained tannins with a crisp freshness. ~92 Decanter
