About the Wine

Tenimenti Angelini, (also known as Angelini Wines & Estates) is a very important wine producer that owns several recognized estates throughout central and northern Italy, including Bertani in Veneto, Val di Suga in Montalcino, Tenuta Trerose in Montepulciano, Tenuta Puiatti in Friuli, and Tenuta San Leonino in Castellina in Chianti.

The company's history began in the Marche region, where Francesco Angelini, a pharmaceutical industrialist bought Fazi Battaglia, (a local wine producer that was famous for its Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico wine) in 1949.

The estate has a total of six wineries and owns 1100 acres of vineyards, producing approximately 1.5 million bottles of wine each year. The family also owns pharmaceuticals, skin care, perfumery, and consumer goods.

San Leonino is a historical estate that dates to 1043. This winery, located in Castellina in Chianti, covers around 250 acres, where 128 of which are planted with vineyards. San Leonino is situated between Florence and Siena, a region that combines different types of soils (clay and alberese) with the continental climate of Florence, and the milder one south of Siena.

This combination of different types of soil, the presence of lakes and streams, and the unique soil and microclimate of the area make this part of Chianti Classico particularly special, resulting in wines with great elegance and extraordinary complexity.

Aging: In concrete vats for 6 months

Tasting Notes85% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot, Cabernet Sauvigon, Petit Verdot. An intense color, and complex nose with notes of ripe fruit (cherry and plum) and jam, tobacco, and rain-soaked earth. The palate is plush and caressing with a tannic finish.

Reviews

Bright, bright ruby red. On the nose initially tomato leaves and green peppers, then black currant and sour cherries. Sweet fruit on the palate, with velvety tannins, salty, well-balanced, long finish. ~91 Falstaff
