About the Wine

Brunello is always a favorite, but 2016 is considered the region’s best vintage ever, and wine lovers and collectors are clamoring to fill their wine racks and cellars with these lauded Tuscan bottles. The longer the bottles from the 2016 vintage are on the market, the scarcer they’ll become. We all know scarcity drives up the price, so NOW is the time to secure the critically acclaimed 2016 Brunello di Montalcino.

When it comes to deciding whether or not to buy wines from the vintage, James Suckling makes the decision easy for you when he says, "If you ever wanted a Brunello for your cellar, buy the 2016 vintage."The critics are raving about this specific 2016 Brunello Riserva from La Fiorita, and it deserves your attention.

La Fiorita is owned by American-born Natalie Oliveros whose Calabrese Nonna exposed her at an early age to basement winemaking. In the early 2000s, her basement training came in handy when she began collaborating with the winery’s then-co-owner Roberto Cipreso on a series of Italian wines. She’s now the primary owner of La Fiorita and, along with the talented winemaker Vincenzo Pirrone, is raising the already respected reputation and quality of La Fiorita, shifting the vineyards toward organic viticulture and modernizing the cellars with the addition of a two-level gravity-fed cantina.

La Fiorita does not craft a Fiore di NO every year. It is only produced in the best years. Fiore di NO is Natalie Oliveros' Masterpiece. Born from three exceptional vineyards – Pian Bossolino (360m), Giardinello (360m), and Collesorbo (220m) – this Sangiovese blend captures the essence of remarkable vintages. Natalie Oliveros, a true expert, skillfully blends texture and freshness to create Fiore di NO Brunello.

Aging: 36 months in wood, 4 months in concrete.

Tasting Notes100% Sangiovese.

Reviews

La Fiorita's 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Fiore di No shows a saturated and nicely enriched presentation with dark ruby highlights. Compared to the estate's classic Brunello, this special selection offers increased concentration and density with blackberry and cherry highlighted by spice, campfire ash and grilled herb. The fruit for this wine comes from three sites: the best part of Pian Bossolino, Poggio al Sole, and Giardinello. But like the other wine, Fiore di No has that distinctive sweet spot with cherry, candied orange and sweet baking spice. This limited 3,200-bottle release is characterized by brightness, linearity and increased focus. ~95+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Enveloping and delicious, this fragrant red opens with aromas of ripe plum, baking spice, blue flower and an earthy whiff of new leather. Full-bodied and concentrated, it also has an almost weightless grace and poise, delivering succulent black cherry, fleshy raspberry, star anise and cinnamon before an espresso close. Fine-grained tannins provide polished support. Drink 2024–2031. ~95 Wine Enthusiast

This has sophisticated aromas of fresh and dried blackberries, lavender, cloves and porcini mushrooms. It’s full-bodied with such richness to the fruit and a deep center palate. Firm, ultra-fine tannins with dried flower and spice character. Great length, too. ~95 James Suckling

Macerated plum, black cherry, spice, and iron aromas and flavors are matched to a vibrant structure in this red, which is firm and dry, with the muscular tannins wrapping the lingering finish in their strong grip. Shows energy from beginning to end. Best from 2024 through 2045. 500 cases made, 200 cases imported. ~95 Wine Spectator

Fiore di No is sourced from two vineyards, Pian Bossolino, and Poggio al Sole, from which it is only produced in the best vintage. The 2016 Fiore di No Brunello has more savory aromatics of cherry pit, fresh Mediterranean herbs, anise, and cedar. The palate has a balanced and firm structure that is forward with ripe red plum, fresh tobacco, and balsamic, giving way to building tannins and warming spice. ~93 Jeb Dunnuck

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Fiore di NO from La Fiorita is sweet and seductively spiced with masses of black cherries, mixed with cinnamon and clove. The textures are silky-smooth, ushering in ripe red fruits laced with minerals, as pretty inner florals amass toward the close. This turns grippy and structured through the finale; yet there’s something so drinkable and energetic about the Fiore di NO, that it will be hard to keep your hands off of it upon release. ~92 Vinous Media

Full and fat in a slightly opulent matrix that after the opening in the glass slowly gives notes of wild violet, dates, juniper berries and nutmeg. Full bodied, tannins mature but slightly astringent at the moment and a finale of medium length. Better from 2022. ~92 WinesCritic.com

Fiore di NO is owner Natalie Oliveros’ selection from her four vineyards. In 2016 the backbone came from Pian Bossolino, which sits at 350 metres, and is rounded out with lots from the lower-lying sites of Giardinello and Poggio al Sole. It is more concentrated, with darker fruit tones than the estate Brunello. Intense violet and lavender mingle with clove and a trace of chocolate. A bit heady in alcohol, but for now the plump fruit absorbs it and cushions the underlying tannic grip. ~90 Decanter
