About the Wine

Robert Parker said it best when he stated about this wine: “It's more about the place than the grape”. This wine comes from San Pablo, a privileged region in the Valle de Uco. San Pablo IG is located just 300 meters from the Andes Mountains! Can you imagine that magnificent view?

Fósil Chardonnay is a mountain wine. The terroir is unmatched: Cold climate (which allows the perfect development of the Chardonnay) calcareous soils of alluvial origin and a landscape that is simply out of this world!

The surname Zuccardi has a well-deserved reputation in the wine industry worldwide. This family is not only responsible for producing some of the best Argentinian wines, but they also have the best wine tourism experience in the entire world: For the third consecutive year, Zuccardi Valle de Uco has been named "The Best Vineyard in the World" by the recognized magazine and digital media company, William Reed Business Medi.

This family business founded by engineer Alberto Zuccardi in 1963, has 6 different estates strategically placed in some of the best wine-growing areas of Mendoza. Today, it is directed by Sebastián Zuccardi, Alberto's grandson.

Sebastián is a visionary and innovative agronomist and winemaker who has made great strides and improvements since he took over the winery. Among other important achievements, he started and promoted a department of research and development that studies the terroir of the region, in order to better understand the land and improve the quality of their wines. Sebastian says: "We don’t look for perfect wines, but those that express the place, the region”.

The winery was built in 2013 and is a tribute to the majestic Andes mountains that surround it. Zuccardi Wines is sustainable in all aspects, from the vineyard to the cellar and even the architecture, where the construction is made with natural elements from the area. The wines are vinified in basins and amphoras allowing a more natural result and with the least possible human intervention.

Fossil is a remarkable white wine originating from a vineyard nestled in the heart of the IG San Pablo wine region. It's a wine that eloquently encapsulates the essence of its mountainous surroundings, offering wine lovers a taste of the extraordinary and the opportunity to experience the magic of the high-altitude Valle de Uco.

Tasting Notes: 100% Chardonnay. This is an elegant and exciting wine. With aromas of dried apple and lemon zest. The palate is vibrant and complex with perfectly balanced acidity. This is the perfect Chardonnay to pair with white meats, seafood, and creamy pasta.

Reviews

The 2022 Chardonnay Fosil hails from Zuccardi’s San Pablo Vineyard in the Uco Valley. It was aged in 75% concrete vats, with the remainder going into used French oak barrels. In the glass, it’s yellow with a greenish sheen. The complex aromas range from green apple peel to chamomile, lime, and mountain herbs such as huacatay, with a pastry backdrop adding further depth. On the palate, it’s lean and dry with a chalky texture and refreshingly tart acidity. The vibrant character is a showcase for the terroir with its austere, herbal notes. Better to keep it for another couple of years to let it truly come into its own. ~97 Vinous Media

Pure and mineral nose with limey citrus and a hint of white almond. Quite transparent on the palate with an elegant but zingy mouthfeel. Transparent, but it also has lots of stamina and verve. 25% fermented in old 500 liter barrels. Drink now or hold. ~96 James Suckling
