About the Wine

“Our wines already exist in nature, in our plants and our vineyards. We worry about one thing and one thing only: taking care of it, so that it grows strong.”

Conte d’Attimis-Maniago’s philosophy is clear: Create exceptional and well-crafted wines, combine the tradition of the region with their own new and creative methods, and transmit to the consumers the greatness of the land.

This family winery is located in Buttrio, a mountainous area in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia dedicated to the cultivation of wine grapes. Although its history dates back more than 300 years, the first bottles of Conte d’Attimis-Maniago were released until 1930.

This growing winery comprises more than 270 acres of vineyards and is planted with typical grapes of the region such as Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Picolit, and Pignolo, among others. The terroir is perfect for these grapes to thrive, especially the Pignolo, which has become a flagship varietal for the winery. The vineyard is managed with environmentally friendly practices and it is located on a foothill area where the soil is composed of marl and sandstone with a predominantly clayey component.

Vignaricco grapes come from the region of Buttrio, in the stunning Friuli Colli Orientali. The wine is produced with classic, traditionalist winemaking. The result is a luxurious red wine, powerful yet elegant and balanced. A dream for Italian wine lovers!

2016 was a great year for Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Vinous Media awarded this vintage with a 94-point review and said that "the 2016 reds are cool-toned and racy, with vivid fruit profiles and the structure to balance. The harvest was concluded under ideal circumstances with fruit that achieved an excellent combination of concentration and physiological ripeness."

Aging: 12 months in wooden casks.

Tasting Notes

Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Schioppettino. Aromas of sweet licorice and jam. A concentrated and powerful yet balanced wine with mature and well-blended fragrances. An excellent wine to drink now and one that offers a promising future.
This wine pairs lovely with game dishes, roasted and braised meats, poultry, and hard cheeses.
