About the Wine

Clos i Terrasses in Priorat, Spain, is a winery located in the heart of Gratallops where the art of winemaking harmonizes with nature. Guided by biodynamic principles, this estate is dedicated to nurturing the vines and crafting wines that showcase the true terroir of Priorat.

Daphne Glorian is the visionary owner and winemaker who has played a pivotal role in the rise of Priorat's winemaking prowess. In 1989, armed with determination and a handful of winemakers, Daphne embarked on a journey to unlock the region's potential. Today, she’s creating some of the best wines Priorat has ever seen.

Clos Erasmus is the first iconic wine produced by Clos i Terrasses, and has garnered cult status and international acclaim. It’s the first wine from Priorat to achieve the legendary 100 Parker points, (not once but twice) in the extraordinary vintages of 2004 and 2005. This remarkable blend showcases the artistry and finesse that define Clos i Terrasses.

Clos Erasmus “Laurel”, is the estate’s second wine. An equally compelling creation, that’s a testament to the estate's commitment to excellence. Crafted with utmost care and precision, this wine is made with all the grapes that are not used for Clos Erasmus. The selection of three vineyards (Escales, Aubagues, and Socarrats) forms the foundation of this exceptional wine. Very limited production of around 2,000 bottles per year.

Aging: 21 months in 2nd use barriques

Tasting Notes75% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Intense dark red color. On the nose delicate aromas of dark berries, sweet spices, licorice, and coffee. The mouth is full of soft tannins, a great mouthfeel with medium acidity and aromas of plums, red berries, and spices. Long lingering finish.

Reviews

The 2019 Laurel is quite closed and shows serious and shy. It's made with all the grapes that are not used for Clos Erasmus—young vines, the remaining Cabernet Sauvignon (no more than 5%), mostly Garnacha, and some 15% Syrah. The wine matured mostly in 2,000-liter oak vats, concrete, and some barrels (she's abandoning the tinaja). It's 15% alcohol but has very good freshness. The wine is round and powerful but very harmonious and with good freshness. It's medium to full-bodied and nicely textured, with abundant, glossy tannins and fantastic balance. This is both powerful and elegant. It slowly opens up in the glass to ripe berries, spice and herbs and a touch of smoke. 18,700 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2021. ~95+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
