About the Wine

La Clarte de Haut-Brion is the product of two of the top chateau in Bordeaux combining their second wines. The wine is slightly more focused on Semillon rather than Sauvignon Blanc, and the contributing wineries just happen to be Haut Brion and La Mission de Haut Brion, both of which make some of the greatest white wines in the world. The result of the crossing of these noble Chateaux is nothing short of exquisite.

When he purchased Château Haut-Brion in 1935, Clarence Dillon restored it to its former glory and to the elite circle of the most legendary wines in the world. This extraordinary, bold, courageous vision is now continued by the fourth generation of the family. The house has a long storied history including making the list of favorites of Benjamin Franklin.

Tasting Notes: 58% Semillon, 42% Sauvignon Blanc. There is a riot of aromas as soon as you put your nose into the glass. The considerable freshness is complemented by citrus (grapefruit) and tropical fruit (pineapple) nuances and even a touch of white truffle. This same aromatic complexity carries over to the palate, which is remarkably fresh and fruity. 2012 La Clarté de Haut-Brion is rich, with a soupçon of bitterness and a salty tang on the finish that calls for another glass. This is well and truly a delicious wine.

Reviews

Wonderful aromas of lemons, minerals, and papaya follow through to a full body, crisp acidity, and mineral, chalk, stone, and dried-apple undertones. Delicious now but better in 2017. ~91 James Suckling
