About The Wine

There are moments in Bordeaux when a property quietly shifts gears, when the static clears, and everything suddenly clicks. Farming, precision, intent—all of it aligns, and what was once "very good" transforms into something you absolutely must be paying attention to. That moment is happening right now at Chateau Mangot.

While the estate’s roots reach back to 1556, the story truly began to accelerate in 1989 when the Todeschini family took the reins. Tucked into the same limestone-rich hillsides as the legendary 100-point Chateau Valandraud, Mangot has always possessed the raw materials of a titan. But it took the arrival of brothers Karl and Yann to turn that potential into a revolution. This isn't corporate, "checked box" winemaking. This is boots-on-the-ground, hands-in-the-dirt, detail-obsessed craft.

For Karl and Yann, organic farming isn’t a marketing trend—it’s the baseline. It has been over a decade since a single non-organic chemical touched these vines. By moving toward biodynamics and utilizing native yeast fermentations with minimal sulfites, they have stripped away the noise to reveal a singular goal: expressing the electric energy of their terroir rather than just its raw power.

The Cuvée Todeschini is the emotional heart of the winery. Since 2008, the brothers have used this signature label as a personal manifesto. It is a wine of "strong human bias," crafted to evolve alongside their own convictions and desires. It is, quite simply, their love and passion captured in a bottle.

2018 was an outstanding vintage in Saint Emilion. Vinous Media blessed this year with a 96 point review.

What the Critics Said

A unique blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Chateau Mangot Todeschini Distique 11 has a gorgeous nose of black raspberries, cassis, acacia flowers, white chocolate, and graphite. With fabulous purity of fruit, full-bodied richness, silky tannins, and loads of floral and sappy herb aromas and flavors, this is gorgeous Saint-Emilion and the finest I've tasted from this address. It needs 3-4 years of bottle age and will keep two decades or more. ~95+ Jeb Dunnuck

With a new name, note the Distique 11 on the label, the dark-colored wine hits you with layers of velvet textured dark red, black, and blue fruit. Full-bodied, concentrated, and with layers of black cherries, licorice, chocolate, and plums, the wine hits all the right notes on your palate. This should age for 2-3 decades with ease. This is clearly a new level for the winery. Give this a few years in the cellar before popping a cork. ~94 The Wine Cellar Insider
