About The Wine

The story of Domaine Albert Grivault is one of the ultimate tales of Burgundian resilience and family legacy. Founded in 1879 by young Albert Grivault following the sudden passing of his father, the estate was built on raw determination. Rather than succumbing to the devastating phylloxera crisis that was tearing through Europe’s vineyards at the exact moment of his purchase, Albert invested the proceeds of his family’s butcher shop into a distillery, funding the acquisition of some of the most precious land in Meursault. For decades following his passing, the estate’s vines were leased to other growers under share-cropping agreements. Yet, the family never let go. In the 1980s, Albert’s grandchildren reclaimed the keys to the cellars, restoring the domaine to its rightful place among the proudest, historic houses of the village. Today, the estate rests in the hands of the fourth generation, continuing a meticulous family saga that spans nearly a century and a half.

Situated directly at the physical and spiritual heart of the estate, the 'Clos du Murger' parcel sits right at the family home in Meursault. The name itself tells the ancient story of the land: a murger refers to the historic stone piles meticulously built by generations of weary winemakers clearing the vineyard plots, while the clos signifies that this special site is entirely enclosed by protective stone walls. Planted in the early 1970s, the vines thrive in a classic Meursault terroir, balancing the region's legendary richness with a vibrant, mineral-driven backbone born from deep limestone roots. By rejecting modern mass production in favor of ancient, low-intervention techniques, the family crafts Albert Grivault Meursault 'Clos du Murger' as a profound testament to time, endurance, and the unbroken line of family history that defines the soul of Burgundy.
