About The Wine

Most people reach for a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and get the same wine: aggressive green herbs, a grassy punch, the unmistakable Marlborough stamp. Decibel isn't that wine.

Daniel Brennan was managing a rock band on European tour when he tasted New Zealand wine for the first time — docked in Philadelphia. He moved to New Zealand in 2007 to become a winemaker. Decibel, his flagship label out of Hawke's Bay on New Zealand's East Coast, is what that conviction built.

Hawke's Bay runs warmer than Marlborough. The Sauvignon Blanc here is rounder, more textural, and less herbaceous — tropical fruit layered over citrus and a briny mineral finish.

Brennan ferments cool in stainless steel with no oak contact, keeping the fruit vivid and the acidity sharp. Pour it cold with anything from the sea.

100% Sauvignon Blanc from Hawke's Bay, New Zealand.

The nose opens with passionfruit, lime zest, lemongrass, and red grapefruit, with chalky mineral notes and hints of citrus blossom.

The palate is plush on entry with peachy fruit and pineapple; the mid-palate builds with bright acidity and primary fruit, finishing long, mouth-watering, and mineral-edged. Fermented cool in stainless steel; unoaked.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

Ripe, pure fruited, varietal and refreshing bouquet of apple and lemon, pear and white fleshed orchard fruits. A finer layer of tropical fruits are quickly superseded by fresh herbs and a touch of bell-pepper and spice. Crisp, salivating and dry as the wine touches the palate, flavours of citrus, apple and orchard fruit along with moments of tropical follow. Well made, fresh, plush and ready to drink from day of purchase through 2027. Excellent value.~93 Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier
