Chateau de la Presle Philea 2001
This unusual blend is made from two grapes, Cabernet Franc (75 %) and Cabernet Sauvignon (25%) a kind of reverse Bordeaux that flatters both grapes. The wine is as hearty and hefty as its 18th century Burgundy bottle that reflects M. Penet’s Burgundian roots. (Also his training in Bordeaux and Australia.) This is a big wine! The color combines deep crimson from the Cabernet Franc and purple from the Cabernet Sauvignon. A pungent, fruity, mineral and earthy aroma, followed by a tart balanced fruitiness, layered rich flavors with notes of plum, cinnamon, currants and anise and a dash of pepper concluding with a lingering finish. A wine made to be drunk with hearty food: game, roast beef or Italian food.
