Pomerol wines are the stars of the fantastic 2015 vintage in Bordeaux, which has already been rated between 94-97pts by major critics. The best wines from the right bank are described as "bottled decadence". They are hedonistic thrill rides of almost unequaled sensual pleasure. Like a number of producers in the region, the Gros family considers two vintages in the last three decades to stand above all others: 2009 and 2015.

About the Wine

In the heart of the prestigious Pomerol appellation, Château Grange Neuve is spread over 7 hectares in one unique holding with soils of both gravel and clay. Ch. Grange Neuve has belonged to the Gros family since 1840. Eight generations have succeeded each other, transmitting their love for this land and its history. The Fleur des Ormes is the name of the cuvee. The flower of the orme tree refers to patience, strength, and durability. One of the remarkable characteristics of 2015, in general, is the freshness of the fruit and the precocious status of these young wines. The wines are ready to drink now, and they are supported by soft tannins that will endure 20+ years. The 2015 Grange Neuve exhibits sensuous, fresh, sweet black cherry, ripe plum and kirsch flavors. Add the round, supple, acid with wet stone; this wine feels like silk on your palate.

Reviews

"What a wine! Blackcap raspberry, Mission fig, and kirsch aromas billow from a freshly poured glass, given a refined, woodsy context by baking spice, freshly-dug dark earth, pipe tobacco, and a whiff of smoke. In a powerful vintage like 2015, the gentle attack is refreshing but somewhat deceptive. The wine remains well-behaved as it slowly builds an already resolved tannic structure that is firm but generous through the mid-palate. Lively yet integrated acid electrifies a rush of classic Pomerol wild cherry and soft licorice flavors to a near frenzy as lilac, macerated strawberries and the nose’s Mission figs follow eagerly behind to complete the concentrated palate. With some air, the tannins grow slightly more assertive, and the wine takes on an even more intense and classic Pomerol profile even as the fruit takes on a silky, crème brulée-like flavor and texture. It’s at this point that words fail, and the drinker is left no alternative but to indulge at will in this stunning wine. At this early date, the balance somewhat disguises the intensity until the powerfully dark and comfortingly grippy finish, but it’s clear that this will continue to fully reveal its charms through at least 2035. A Pomerol clinic in a glass, it’s one of 2015 Bordeaux’s more remarkable discoveries, and should be a mandatory bottle in even the most modest of cellars."
