About the Wine

Savennières located in the Loire Valley is a small and charming appellation that’s focused mainly on producing wines made with Chenin Blanc. This under-the-radar appellation is finally waking up the interest of major wine critics, consumers, and pros who are realizing the extraordinary potential that this region has to give.

Decanter said, quality is high to exceptional across this small appellation, and yet, it is still little known, even in France. It has a good reputation but in a very small circle.”

Domaine Fournier Longchamps (FL) is located in Rochefort sur Loire in Maine-et-Loire, very close to the Loire River and about 9 miles from the medieval town of Angers. The Domaine was founded by Philip Fournier Longchamps in 2006, and in 2009, Julien, Philip’s son took over the reins of the estate.

The estate is made up of more than 100 acres located in some of the most respected appellations in the Loire Valley like Savennières, Roche aux Moines, Anjou, Coteaux du Layon, and Chaume. Since 2009, the vineyard is managed with organic and biodynamic viticulture, wherepassion and respect for wine and terroir are key on each of the cuvées.”

2018 was a stellar year for the Loire Valley. Robert Parker blessed this vintage with a 95-point review, and Wine Spectator said it was "one of the largest crops of the decade, with favorable weather conditions throughout the year yielding concentrated wines. Chenin Blanc and red varieties did very well."

Tasting Notes: 100% Chenin Blanc. The color is straw yellow, with golden reflections. The nose is filled with fruits and quince. The palate is yellow fruits and spicy notes. This wine will impress all of your guests if you serve it with any shellfish or seafood. And, it's delicious with chevre too.

Reviews

Stare into the abyss and it will stare back at you! This has such an incredible depth of dried flower and fresh herb notes that you could get lost in the bouquet, before reaching the sleek and enormously mineral palate. So pristine and dazzling at the super long finish. Drink or hold. ~98 James Suckling

This 1ha plot surrounds the château of the same name, planted on sandy loam soils covering a bedrock of rhyolite and micro-granites. Compared to the others, this is expressive in character, more open and accessible, with a zesty lemon citrus character and yellow fruit. But don't assume this means you won't find the same depth of flavor and mineral powder. Still steely and firm, and with years of life ahead. ~93 Decanter
