About the Wine

The Symington family settled in Portugal in 1882, when Andrew James Symington came to work for W.&J. Grahams. Today the family owns 27 Quintas (Estates), covering 1006 hectares (2486 acres) in the Douro.

“Among thousands of casks at Graham’s, three were set apart...”

The Symington family put aside three barrels of a port dating back to the arrival of their great-grandfather Andrew James Symington in 1882. The family has named this unique wine “Ne Oublie” (Do not forget) after the original Graham's family motto. The name reflects the respect with which the family regard their
great-grandparents’ joint decision to commit themselves and their descendants to Portugal, to the Douro region and to Port.

Now 130 years later his direct descendants have bottled one of these three barrels. The other two barrels have been entrusted to the next generation of the family and it is they, who will decide their future, in 2025 at the earliest.

This extraordinary wine has always been stored in Graham’s cellars.

Tasting Notes: “Extremely fresh, with these orange zest notes which are very typical in this very very old wine. Intensity of flavor, spice tones, wonderful caramel, rich sweetness, fresh and clean on the nose.”

Special Note about the Unique Packaging:

Ne Oublie has been bottled in an individually numbered, hand-made crystal decanter designed by Portugal's leading glass manufacturer Atlantis.

Three sterling silver bands, moulded and engraved by Scottish Silversmiths Hayward & Stott adorn the glass. The decanter is presented in a bespoke presentation box handcrafted with the finest leathers by the quintessentially British brand, Smythson of Bond Street, one of the world's oldest luxury leather goods companies.

There is a leaflet included in the box with a detailed presentation of the wine signed by the family members.

Reviews

Loads of dried fruit with apricot and Brazilian limes. Full body and very sweet. Bright acidity. The density and purity of this port is astonishing. Honey, caramel and dried fruits. Gets fresher and fresher on the palate. Goes on for minutes. Leaves me speechless. ~100 points, James Suckling

“This virtually immortal 1882 has such enormous color, depth, viscous concentration and intensity of flavor that it really has to be tasted to be believed.” ~John Stimpfig, Financial Times

“Once the little tasting bottles were opened at the launch in Christie’s, London the whole room was perfumed. Impressively clean and pure.” ~Jancis Robinson, MW

“It’s an incredible piece of history (...) I could smell it a foot away from the glass, curling, intense... then tasting rich with dried fruit and toasted almonds underneath it.”  ~Victoria Moore, The Daily Telegraph
