1979 Sanford & Benedict Cabernet Sauvignon Santa Barbara

Here is a piece of CA wine history in a bottle. Perfectly stored. Sanford and Benedict were pioneers in the Santa Barbara wine region. They planted some of the first pinot noir and chardonnay vines in Sta. Rita Hills, now widely recognized as one of the finest sites for these varietals in CA. They also made Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine shows quite a bit of pyrazine on the nose (bell pepper) but there remains some fruit and leather and intriguing tertiary notes. If you like Bordeaux, try this wine.
