About the Wine

McGuigan winery is one of the most awarded wineries in all of Australia. Most of its wines have received 90+ points from some of the most important wine critics in the world. And only in 2017, they received a total of 595 medals. In 2019, Neil McGuigan was named for the 4th time, “Winemaker of the Year”by the International Wine Challenge (IWC).

The story of this award-winning winery dates back to 1880 when the McGuigan family arrived in Hunter Valley. Today, the estate has vineyards in some of the most emblematic wine regions like McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek, and Barossa Valley.

Neil McGuigan is the owner and winemaker. With more than 30 years of winemaking experience (and 4 “Winemaker of the Year” awards), he sure knows the Australian wine biz. He produces high-quality, premium wines that will enchant even the most demanding wine palates.

This Cabernet Sauvignon-Shiraz blend is an extremely limited release. The grapes are sourced from small parcels. High quality, precision, and elegance are the most accurate words to describe this wine.

This perfect blend is sourced from three top vineyards: Part of the Cab is from Langhorne Creek, another part from Wrattonbully and the Shiraz comes from Clare Valley. The result is a deep and complex red blend.

Tasting NotesComplex and attractive black fruits, cedar, and sweet spice characters complement the lifted aromas of blackcurrant and plum with a hint of chocolate mint delivering great depth and concentration which lingers.

Reviews

An intense, intriguing mix of dark chocolate, fresh peppermint, cassis, and wild blackberry flavors, with dense, velvety tannins and hints of tobacco and spice. The tannins firm up on the finish, where a black licorice note lingers. Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Drink now through 2028. ~92 Wine Spectator.
