Bertani’s impact on Veneto winemaking, particularly in Amarone production, is so considerable that ‘Bertani’ and ‘Amarone’ are nearly synonymous. Their 150+ year history is dotted with groundbreaking initiatives and royal accreditation. While respectful of their past, Bertani strives towards innovation. With their progressive technique, extensive experience, and a deep respect for tradition they provide wines of uncompromising quality time after time.
The grapes come from the Tenuta Novare vineyards at Arbizzano di Negrar, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico area. Their 220 ha vineyards are covered with calcareous-marl soils and are devoted exclusively to the production of Amarone. As an icon of Italian wine, Bertani combines the typicity of native grape varieties with continuous improvement in the vineyards and attention to the terroir to create these award winning wines. Today the winery has a focus on traditional winemaking techniques, with minimal intervention in the cellar the wines are able to hone in on the pure expression of the fruit.
Aging: 6 years in Slavonian oak barrels. 12 months in bottle before release.
Tasting notes: An intense red color, with garnet nuances. Typical and marked notes of plum, cherry, and morello cherry on the nose, followed by a wide variety of tones: nuts, tea leaves, licorice, and spices. On the palate, overtones of red berry fruit, softened by velvety notes of vanilla, in perfect balance with the acidity and tannic notes.
