After nearly 40 years of producing wine, White Oak Winery has permanently closed its doors. We were able to pull together just a handful of bottles of the 2014 Pinot Noir. White oak always produced a lot of grapes from their vineyards but only made a small amount of wine, as a large portion of their grapes were sold off to other brands. This small production bottle has just enough age on it to really showcase the high-quality fruit that went into it.
The Russian River Valley is world-renowned for its exceptionally balanced Pinot Noirs. The profile typically turns up the volume on the fruit profile and showcases a distinct cola nut flavor. The valley is typically warm through the summer months with a cool sea breeze that rolls through in the evenings from the pacific ocean.
The 2014 vintage was a near-perfect growing season. The winter was unseasonably dry with only two instances of rainfall through the season. Although the moisture level was lower than ideal, the warm yet manageable growing season lead to a long development period allowing the grapes to come to full ripeness with plenty of time to develop a complex aromatic profile.
Tasting Notes: 100% Pinot Noir. Fresh plum and raspberry, with an undercurrent of pomegranate juice. Bing cherry and birch beer, with cola and a hint of graham cracker. Vibrant acidity and a mineral-driven edge with touches of graphite on the finish.
