About the Wine
Chianti Classico Tenuta Perano is born on the hills of Gaiole in Chianti from historic vineyards. The combination of elevation, exposure, and the slope of the vineyards offers an extraordinarily unique quality that results in brilliant purple wines possessed of intensely fruity aromas and a great tannic structure rife with elegance. Tenuta Perano produces world-class Chianti Classico showcasing refined brilliance and persistence.
The history of the Frescobaldi family starts over a thousand years ago and is closely connected with the history of Tuscany. At the high point of medieval Florence, the Frescobaldi's spread their influence as bankers, earning the title of treasures to the English crown. A little later, with the flowering of the Renaissance, they became patrons of major works in Florence, such as the construction of the Santa Trinita bridge and the Basilica of Santo Spirito.
Tasting notes: Red Wine. 100% Sangiovese. Tenuta Perano 2015 is a brilliant purple wine with a floral nose enhanced by fruity notes of wild blackberry, raspberry, and cherry, which lead to balsamic highlights of eucalyptus and thyme accompanied by mineral touches of graphite and spicy pink pepper. The tannic structure is typical of Chianti Classico, it caresses the palate leaving it clean and fresh. The intense and persistent finish leaves a pleasant walnut nuance.
This shows real freshness and character with crushed stones, blackberry pie, vanilla, and tobacco in addition to the lemon undertones. The palate shows lots of depth but also a really excellent balance. Full body, structured tannins, and acidity that really drives this through to the chewy finish. Drink in 2020. ~93 James Suckling
The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Tenuta Perano is dense and powerful in its first impression. Super-ripe red/purplish berry fruit, spice, sweet tobacco, mint, leather, and pine add complexity to this ample, sweeping Riserva. Powerful and yet nicely layered, with notable complexity, 2015 has a lot to offer. I would give it a few more years in bottle to develop greater aromatic nuance and overall complexity. ~93 Vinous Media
