"What makes the 2016 vintage so special is the quality across the Bordeaux hierarchy. The same character found in the most complex wines is also apparent in the simpler options. They all offer bottlings with rich, ripe fruit and a tannic structure that promises longevity." ~Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast

Founded in 1994 by the professional French soccer player, Eric Prissette. Chateau Rol Valentine was a part of the garagiste movement in Bordeaux that emerged in the mid-1990s as a reaction to the traditional style of Bordeaux. Unlike the traditional style of Bordeaux that is high in tannins and requires over a decade before it's ready to drink; Vins de Garage's style is bigger, bolder, and fruiter and is ready to drink now. No need to wait to taste the splendors of the exceptional 2016 vintage. Wine consultant, Stéphane Derenoncourt, assists the estate in producing one of the best sub $25 a bottle St-Emilion wines anywhere!

Derenoncourt is one of France's premier wine consultants and his specific expertise is in the Right Bank. His clients include Domaine de Chevalier, Clos Fourtet, Clos de l'Oratoire, Chateau Pavie-Macquin, Canon-la-Gaffeliere, Smith Haut Lafitte, Brown, as well as Francis Ford Coppola's Rubicon Estate in Napa.

Vines average 40 years in age and are hand-harvested and fermented in temperature-controlled, wooden tanks. After aging, the wine is lightly fined but not filtered. The vines are tended to without the use of herbicides.

Aging: 14-16 months in 35% new French Oak

Tasting Notes: Red Wine. 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. The nose exudes aromas of ripe blackcurrants, licorice, and wild herbs, leading on to an expansive palate displaying rich black and red fruits supported by silky smooth and almost seamless tannins. A touch of bitter chocolate on the finish. This oak forward right bank wonder pairs perfectly with red or white meats, grilled or in sauce, and a variety of cheeses.
