Getting their start in the early 1970's with just a single acre of vines in the heart of Montalcino, Pietroso crafted beautiful wines from the start. The estate has grown since its inception but still only produces from 13 acres split between 3 vineyards. The wines here are always exciting, even in lesser vintages. In a truly exceptional vintage like 2016, the wines absolutely sing.
"If I had to think of one way to universally describe the majority of wines from the 2016 vintage, I would offer that they are like a well-muscled black stallion in its prime. They are dark yet radiant, expressive, nearly explosive at times, yet pure, poised and structured. These are wines that capture your imagination; and no matter how youthfully tense they are today, you simply can’t help but revisit a glass over and over again; because in many cases, the aromatics alone are intoxicating. I frankly cannot remember the last time I tasted young wines from Montalcino that possessed such symmetry from start to finish. The best part is that this success was widely spread throughout the region" Antonio Galloni
Aging: Spends 38 months in a mix of French and Slavonian Oak Barrels
Tasting Notes: Aromas of autumn leaves, small red berries, light spice, hints of vanilla. Textured, smooth; tannins are present yet suave, long finish.
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is rich in aromatics of black raspberry, menthol, sage, and lavender. It is fruit-forward upfront, with pure cherry fruit, balsamic, and black tea with classically structured tannins and acidity that lifts off the palate and a long finish. It was aged for 6 months in tonneaux followed by two years in large barrels. Cellar 2-4 years and enjoy 2024-2036. ~98 Jeb Dunnuck
