About the Wine

Not to be confused with the rose Cerasuolos coming from Abruzzo, this is a full blown red wine from Sicily. This wine offers a blend of Nero d'Avola and Frappato, as is customary to Cerasuolo di Vittoria. This style of winemaking is said to date back to Greek occupation of the island. Sicily may be most well known for its massive volcano and decadent pizzas, but these wines are really starting to develop a reputation of their own. It’s time to prepare your favorite hearty pasta and pair alongside this Sicilian masterpiece. Are you ready for a meal filled with gastronomic ecstasy?

The family behind Tenuta del Nanfro has long been making wine on its estate in southeastern Sicily. The vineyards are located just four kilometers from the small town of Caltagirone, known for its ancient ceramic art and craft history. The family has 32 hectares of land, which is farmed organically and predominantly planted with the indigenous grapes of the region: Frappato, Nero d’Avola, Inzolia, and a bit of Chardonnay. The combination of mild climate and sandstone soils produce wines that exhibit a “sensual” character, unique to this particular region of Sicily.

Tasting Notes: 50% Nero d’Avola and 50% Frappato. This wine shows the characteristic bright cherry red color that Cerasuolo is named for. The nose is brimming with juicy red fruits, and violets. The palate is surprisingly full with firm yet approachable tannins, ready for drinking today. If you love notes of espresso, mocha, and earth combined with dried figs, you’ll love this wine!
