About the Wine

Domaine de Rosiers is located in the heart of Ampuis and is owned and managed by the young Maxime Gourdain who has recently taken over the Domaine from his uncle Louis Drevon. The Domaine started bottling wines under their own name in 1976. The estate manages over 28 parcels on the hillsides of Ampuis, with vineyard holdings next to the famous La Landonne vineyard and Chateau Grillet. They produce wine in typical Cote-Rotie fashion with a dominance of Syrah featuring a touch of Viognier for added complexity and aromatic lift. Domaine de Rosiers is an unpretentious, high-quality Côte-Rôtie producer, marked by traditional winemaking.

Cuvée Drevon is sourced from five different locations, with the vines varying from 38 to 80 years in age. About 2-4% Viognier is added to the Syrah for a little added freshness. The quantities of this cuvée have been reduced in recent years in favor of producing higher quality wine. The wine is a nod to the uncle and previous owner of the domain, Louis Drevon, who helps his nephew in the vineyard and the cellar, but lets him craft the wines with his own style.

Aging: 18 months in 25% New French Oak

Tasting Notes: 98% Syrah and 2% Viognier. In the glass, the wine is a deep ruby red. A spiced bouquet jumps out of the glass dominated by ripe red berries, violetssmoked meats, pepper, currants, and licorice. On the palate the wine is intense, concentrated, smooth, rich, and robust, this wine matures excellently and can be aged for over 15 years.

Reviews

Black cherry preserves are dusted with mocha and candied violets in this fragrant, airy expression of Côte-Rôtie. Composed of 98% Syrah and just 2% Viognier, it's a plush, glossy wine made with fully destemmed grapes and matured in 25% new oak. Slim and softly treading, it's welcoming young but should gain complexity nicely through 2030. ~92 Wine Enthusiast
