About the Wine

When a winemaker hasfifteen 100-point wines under his belt from his own winery —6 of them from Wine Advocate—does he really need to take on winemaking duties at another winery? Maybe he doesn’tneed to, but we’re very glad hechose to because there is now more Russell Bevan wine in the world. And, if Robert Parker’s opinion of Bevan is worth anything (of course it is!), that’s a very good thing. This is what he has to say about theCabernet Sauvignon rockstar.

I continue to be blown away by the wines from Russell Bevan...These are by no means shy wines, but their richness and complexity are remarkable. Despite their massive size, concentration, and density, they reveal tremendous polish, finesse, and elegance.

In 2018, when Napa’s Elyse Winery’s original owners sold to fellow Yountville locals, Josh Peeples and Cheryl Foil, they chose to bring Bevan on as winemaker. The 2018 Elyse Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is from his inaugural vintage, which also happens to be a 99-point Napa vintage

The wine has thatmagic Bevan touch all over it. He crafts this Napa Cab from carefully selected grapes grown in three Napa appellations and four vineyards, including Elyse’s home estate. It’s quintessential Napa Cab with black cherry, cola, andearthy, savory sage plus abeautifully silky palate.

As the wine world discovers that the work Bevan is doing for Elyse is equal to the work he’s done creating 100-point wines for his own Bevan Winery, we know what will happen. The value of Bevan-kissed Elyse wines, including this Napa Cab Sauv, will skyrocket. By way of comparison, the Bevan wines sell for $200+/btl. There will be no more advantageous time to fill a cellar with them than right now.

Tasting Notes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Medium bodied and dry with notes of rich black cherry, cola, and savory roasted sage sprig.  Concentrated mouthfeel. Firm, yet elegant tannins that linger.
