About the Wine
Bodegas Emilio Moro traces its roots back to 1891, when Emilio Moro began farming vineyards in Pesquera de Duero, laying the foundation for one of Ribera del Duero’s most influential family wineries. Generations later, that same focus on vineyard identity still defines the estate.
Clon de la Familia is not a single-vineyard wine. It is a family decision, shaped slowly over decades. The Moro family studied their own vineyards, identifying the Tinto Fino vines that best expressed balance, depth, and character. From those vines, they selected the healthiest shoots and used their buds to graft new plantings. This long process became the foundation of Clon de la Familia, a wine built from the estate’s most expressive genetic material rather than from one site alone.
The 2018 vintage unfolded at an unhurried pace. An unusually wet spring delayed early growth, followed by a drier summer that helped restore balance in the vineyard. Temperatures remained close to normal until the final stage of ripening, when warmer conditions pushed the fruit to full maturity without sacrificing freshness. The result was a harvest defined by control, clarity, and balance.
The wine draws from two complementary sites that define its character. Cornalvo, a south-facing slope, contributes warmth, ripe aromatics, and generosity. La Mira, located on the páramo at nearly 900 meters above sea level, brings cooler conditions and wide day-to-night swings that preserve structure and energy. Together, these sites capture the contrast that defines Ribera del Duero, combining clay-rich soils with limestone and stone, Mediterranean warmth with continental restraint.
Clon de la Familia carries power, but it is measured. Every choice reflects intention, from the decades-long vine selection to the way depth and structure are held in check. This is a Ribera del Duero built to evolve, rewarding patience rather than chasing immediacy.
It’s a no-brainer if you love the power and elegance of Ribera del Duero, but without the sticker shock of other big-name wines. It’s a true gem from a winery that mixes the best of the past with the innovation of the future. Stock up, and make this your go-to for any occasion. You’ll be reaching for another bottle, guaranteed.
Ribera del Duero is a paradise for wine lovers. Within this wine region, you’ll find some of the most unique, exceptional, sought-after examples of Spanish wines.

Tasting Notes
100% Tempranillo.
Deep garnet-red in color, the bouquet is intense and extraordinarily complex, full of delicate nuances of red and black fruits. The evolution in the glass is excellent, revealing its fruity base and complexity.
On the palate, it is intense and silky with a powerful tannin. It has a warm, fruity and very pleasant finish.
Critical Reviews
Powerful yet very polished, with plush dark spices, walnut husks, chiles, chocolate and rich blackberries. Touches of minerals and charcoal. Round tannins aplenty on the palate, with concentrated flavors and a structured, persistent finish. Goes on for half a minute. Full-bodied and intense, but nothing heavy here. Drink from 2025. ~ 95 James Suckling
Style: full-bodied. Aroma: ripe fruit, dried herbs, creamy oak, tobacco, characterful. Flavour: powerful, ripe fruit, spicy, round tannins. ~ 92 Guía Penin
