Heir Apparent is spearheaded by ambitious Dwight Bonewell. Through his vision, Dwight has created an Ultra-Luxury Napa Cab that sources fruit from some of Napa's most prized vineyards. The 2018 Reserve is a blend of fruit from Rutherford, Mt. Veeder, and St. Helena; most notably sourced from vineyards next door to Scarecrow and Cakebread. You can pay hundreds of dollars for a bottle of Scarecrow or Cakebread or you can seize the moment and capture this magnificent bottle of Cabernet available for a fraction of the original SRP!
That's where we come in, finding Ultra-Luxury brands that sell to a small lot of high-net-worth clients who have an excess of wine. The 2018 Heir Apparent Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is the essence of this promising vintage and the continuation of rich history in Napa Valley red wines.
The turbulent growing seasons for upcoming Napa vintages, 2019 and 2020 have produced more questions than answers. The quality of these wines will be heavily scrutinized and reviewed under every critic's microscope. The time is ripe to stock up on quality vintages like 2015, 2016, and 2018. The opportunities to capture wines from previous years are limited.
93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec, and 3% Cabernet Franc. This dark ruby Cabernet Sauvignon shows an intense nose of blackberry and sweet Asian spice intermixed. The wine reveals an extremely supple tannin texture with the strength and power of beautiful Napa Valley Cabernet fruit. Black pepper and blueberry fruit interplay along with a note of graphite and a subtle vanilla touch on the finish. Long-lasting finish promise of an even better time.
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Heir Apparent Reserve checks in as a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec, and the rest Cabernet Franc. Its dense purple color is followed by a solid bouquet of earthy black and blue fruits, tobacco leaf, spice, and sous bois. Rich and full-bodied, with a rounded mouthfeel and texture, bright tannins, and a good finish, it shows the beautiful freshness and elegance of this vintage and builds nicely with time in the glass. It’s certainly an outstanding wine, and while I think it’s drinking terrific today, I have no doubt it will evolve for 10-15 years. ~92 Jeb Dunnuck
