About the Wine

Lúnasa is the kind of winery whose story is as compelling as what's in the bottle. Jordan and Ciji Jeffries purchased twenty acres north of Calistoga in 2017. The land had been planted to Cabernet Sauvignon decades earlier by Dr. Marvin Poston — an Oakland optometrist, community pioneer, and the first African American to plant a vineyard in Napa Valley. Out of deep respect for that legacy, Jordan and Ciji kept the name: Poston Crest Vineyard.

Jordan earned his degree in Viticulture & Enology from UC Davis and went on to hone his craft at some of Napa's most respected houses, including Duckhorn Vineyards, Lewis Cellars, and Davis Estates. Ciji's path was different but equally intentional — a glass of Châteauneuf-du-Pape at her uncle's table opened her eyes to what wine could truly be, and a series of harvest seasons in Northern California made Napa her home. Together they bring complementary instincts to every wine they make

The label's double heart design is a Farmer's Knot — an ancient Celtic harvest tradition Ciji discovered visiting family in rural Ireland. For centuries, farmers wove these knots from wheat and left them with their partners at the start of harvest as a pledge to return when the work was done. In Celtic, "Lúnasa" means August — the month harvest begins.

The 2018 is Lúnasa's debut vintage, and it was made in very limited quantities. This is a small-production, allocation-only wine that most wine lovers will simply never have the chance to buy. Aged 28 months in new and neutral French oak, it's the first chapter of a remarkable story — and there's very little of it left to tell.

Aging: new and neutral French oak barrels for 28 months.

Tasting Notes

Deep garnet in color with ruby hues, the nose has a subtle aroma of violet and cardamom. Initial notes of bing cherry on the palette open to a deep raspberry and currant body with a hint of white pepper. The tannins integrate to create a smooth, velvety mouthfeel with a long, delicate finish.
