About the Wine
Founded in 1996 by the dynamic husband-and-wife duo, Tiziano and Alessandra Ciacci, Poggio Nardone is a true testament to the power of vision and perseverance. The estate shares a border with the famed Mocali vineyard in the heart of the Tavernelle region of Montalcino. But its story began much earlier. Alessandra’s grandfather, one of the 25 founding members of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino, set the groundwork by carefully documenting the prime vineyard locations in this region. Years later, Tiziano and Alessandra uncovered his meticulous notes, which allowed them to rediscover the estate's original boundaries—an overgrown vineyard waiting to be resurrected.
Since then, the Ciacci family has poured their hearts into restoring Poggio Nardone, focusing on cultivating the very best Sangiovese grapes in one of the most ideal locations in Montalcino. With vineyards nestled at elevations of 350 to 450 meters above sea level, surrounded by forests of oak, holm oak, and strawberry trees, the land here has been a perfect marriage of nature’s gifts and human dedication. The soils—rich in marl and limestone—impart a unique minerality to the wines that can’t be replicated anywhere else.
Poggio Nardone has already earned numerous accolades and critical acclaim for its commitment to excellence. This estate is often celebrated for its precise winemaking methods, which showcase the expressive character of their terroir. The wines of Poggio Nardone are not just highly sought after—they are coveted, and their Brunello stands proudly alongside some of the finest in Montalcino.
The 2018 Poggio Nardone is not only an exceptional example of Brunello—it’s also a rare opportunity to own a piece of Montalcino’s most respected estates. The estate’s small size (less than 10 hectares) means that every bottle is a limited-edition treasure, meticulously crafted from some of the finest Sangiovese vines in the world. This is not just a wine; it’s an investment in quality, tradition, and heritage.
For those who appreciate the art of wine, this is an unmissable bottle. With its deep roots in the land and a clear vision of the future, Poggio Nardone is creating wines that will continue to shape the legacy of Montalcino for generations to come.

Aging: 3 years in French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes
100% Sangiovese. A complex bouquet of ripe red cherries, sour plums, and a savory undercurrent, elegantly interwoven with notes of vanilla, cedar, and tobacco from four years in French oak. On the palate, it delivers a firm yet refined structure with vibrant acidity and well-integrated tannins, showcasing flavors of red fruit, baking spices, and a hint of earthy minerality, culminating in a long, satisfying finish.
Critical Reviews
The nose is savory yet crisp, as aromas of new leather and black cherry crackle above weightier notes of hot tar, herbs and top soil. On the palate, cherries are lifted by a dusting of citrus zest and more herbs, while a current of dark chocolate ripples in the background. Lithe acid and refined yet textured tannins. ~93 Wine Enthusiast
Noble and decidedly balsamic in the primary profile alternating notes of peppermint, eucalyptus, green tea leaves and guaranà. A lot of very delicate dried cherries are housed in the background giving brilliance and crunchiness. Medium bodied, well extracted mature tannins and a finale which squeezes from the centre palate onwards. Better from 2025. ~93 WinesCritic.com
Aromas of hazelnuts, crushed stones, potpourri, red cherries and purple plums. Sharp, chiselled and structured, with firm tannins and bright acidity. Very fresh fruit with a mineral edge. Better from 2024. ~92 James Suckling
Poggio Nardone's 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is layered with oak spice and campfire ash, and that's the first thing you notice about this medium to full-bodied Sangiovese. There is a second wave of black cherry and baked plum, but the wine's aromatic presentation is rather binary and simplistic at the end of the day. It revolves mostly around those two pillars: oak spice and black fruit. To the palate, it shows soft tannins and accessibility. This Brunello ages in French oak botti for three years. Production is 10,000 bottles. ~91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

A dark mix of plum and cherry sauces, wild herbs and black earth wafts up from the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino. This is creamy in feel and balsamic in nature with depths of dark red fruits and mineral tones that swirl throughout. The 2018 lingers on with subtle tannins and savory spices, as residual acids maintain an admirable freshness. Poggio Nardone captured a more powerful side of the vintage here, yet with a structure that should allow readers to enjoy this Brunello after only a few years of cellaring. ~90 Vinous Media
Potent umami richness jumps from the glass of the 2018 Brunello Di Montalcino, with black cherry liqueur, balsamic, leather, and shitake. Full-bodied, with meaty plum fruit, dark mineral earth, and firm tannins that continue to build, this powerfully structured wine will benefit from a few more months in bottle. Drink 2024-2030. ~90 Jeb Dunnuck
