About the Wine
Just over 28 miles from the lovely city of Lyon, one of the gastronomic capitals of France, you will find Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin.
Jean-Michel Gerin is located in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie vineyards. In 1983, the Gerin family's dream began thanks to the inheritance of vineyards from Jean-Michel's father and grandfather. By 1987, Jean-Michel started to craft and market the wine under the name we know today "Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin". Quickly, this family business started to grow, and in 1996 they expanded the vineyards and purchased Las Grandes Places. Today, the well-established 29-acre estate is run by Jean-Michel's sons, Michael and Alexis.
Nestled in the tiny Northern Rhône appellation of Condrieu, this 2019 Les Eguets is crafted from 100% Viognier, the only grape permitted in the region. Covering just 200 hectares of steep granite slopes, Condrieu is one of the most challenging and sought-after white wine appellations in France. Precision in harvest is essential—Viognier ripens quickly, and only wines picked at exactly the right moment achieve the perfect balance of richness, aromatic intensity, and freshness.
This is a wine to cellar and savor—rare, expressive, and unlike anything you’ll find in a widely available white. With its small production and highly sought-after appellation, opportunities to acquire Les Eguets are limited. Today, you can secure it at our lowest price anywhere, offering a chance to experience a classic Northern Rhône Viognier that will reward both your palate and your patience.
Tasting Notes
100% Viognier. Rich golden color. Powerful perfume and heady notes of jasmin flowers mingling with apricot blossom and honeycomb. The texture is highly viscous to the point of being almost oily. Unctuous and full bodied on the palate. Explosion of compote of citrus and apricot fruit quickly followed by some granitic minerality.
Critical Reviews
This flamboyant white announces itself with heady aromas of apricot, honeysuckle and charred vanilla. Decadently creamy, it's a silky, mouth-drenching sip that finishes on notes of crème caramel and tangerine zest. It's drinking beautifully in youth but should develop more honeyed, marzipan notes as it matures through 2030 and likely further. ~94 Wine Enthusiast
Juicy and fresh, with a mix of apricot, white nectarine and mirabelle plum notes backed by a hint of anise on the plump finish. Drink now. ~92 Wine Spectator
