About the Wine

Some deals are too good to pass up, and this is one of those. The 2019 vintage, although very young is showing beautifully in the bottle. Maison la Berthaude is an exceptional rendition of the classic region from a leading estate. The quality to value of this wine is out of this world, truly a wine to stock up on.

Vineyards have existed on the Roger Perrin property between Orange and Châteauneuf since the beginning of the 1900’s. However, the Domaine Roger Perrin was founded in 1969 when Roger Perrin took it over after his father-in-law's retirement. Roger died unexpectedly during the harvest in 1986, and his son Luc took over the domaine. Luc had studied enology and done an apprenticeship at Château de Beaucastel, which is managed by another family named Perrin. Slowly Luc Perrin increased the quality at his domaine so that people began to recognize his name as a producer rather than mistakenly as one of the "Beaucastel Perrins." The two families, although neighbors and friends, actually have no genetic ties.

"2019 appears to be a beautiful, possibly exceptional, vintage for the Southern Rhône" ~Jeb Dunnuck

Tasting Notes: 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% MourvèdreIt shows ripe cassis, black stone fruits, and kirsch that converge with notes of smoke, leather, and forest floor to give this wine penetrating depth and complexity.

A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre, raised in stainless steel and concrete, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Maison La Berthaude Tradition reveals a healthy ruby/purple color as well as complex, traditional notes of blackberries, peppery garrigue, new saddle leather, and dried flowers. With medium to full-bodied richness, notable purity of fruit, and silky tannins, it’s a charming, balanced, outstanding Châteauneuf du Pape in the making. ~90-92 Jeb Dunnuck

Leather-tinged red berries mark the nose of the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition. Admirably concentrated, with a ripe, velvety feel and ample weight on the palate, this is a solid effort and already delicious, despite a gentle dusting of tannins on the finish. ~90 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
