The Victor Fagon is an exclusive US-only label from Maison Bertrand Amboise. These wines are among the most concentrated and boldest expressions of Pinot Noir & Chardonnay available in the Cote d’Or today and have been recognized as one of the premier NSG producers since the early 90’s.
Nuits-Saint-Georges has no vineyards designated with the prestigious "Grand Cru" title but that doesn't take away from the village's longs standing reputation for producing some of Burgundy's most powerful reds. NSG, as it's called in sommelier circles, is home to 41 Premier Cru vineyards. This prestigious appellation is one of Burgundy's finest, producing wines with impressive structure and exceptional age ability. The wines from Nuits-Saint-Georges will impress you with their muscular structure, power, velvety tannins, and substantial age-ability NSG is so famous for. These wines have both body and spirit and are some of Burgundy's most long-lived reds.
The Domaine dates back to the late 18th century. Bertrand took control of the estate in 1988 after the death of Martin’s (Bertrand’s wife) father and has never looked back. Today Bertrand’s Son, Francois, manages the vineyards (w/Bertrand) & daughter, Ludivine, manages the commercial aspects of the Domaine; allowing Bertrand to concentrate on the winemaking. Low yields and ripe skins allow for long, slow fermentations on the skins, sometimes 3+ weeks which is why these wines have more color than most. All cuvees are 100% destemmed.
The name on the label represents Francois’s son “Victor” and “Guy-Crescent Fagon”, doctor to Louis XIV and important benefactor to the wines of Nuits Saint Georges. The 21-hectare Domaine spread amongst 20 appellations is located in Premeaux-Prissey (the southern side of Nuits Saint Georges) and has been certified organic since 2013.
Elevage: 100% Barrel Fermented; 50% New Oak
Tasting Notes: 100% Pinot Noir. Classic Premeaux nose of clay earth, underbrush, and spice. This is a massive wine in the mouth with healthy tannins, intense black cherry, cassis, toasty-spicy oak, and smoked herbs; lots of earthy complexity; The finish here is a continuation of the palate that lasts for well over a minute. Outstanding!
