About the Wine

Chateau Cantenac Brown is a third-growth Grand Cru Classe in Margaux. The Chateau is noteworthy for its unique Tudor style designed by the former Scottish owner, a painter named John Lewis Brown. There have been three owners since 1989 and the current owner is Tristan Le Lous since 2019. Each ownership change has brought new investments and improvements in the winery and vineyards. Jose Sanfins has overseen the management of the property since 2006.

In 2020, a new cellar has been built using the raw earth. This eco-friendly design uses a rammed-earth technique to create a gravity-fed cellar.

Located next door to Brane Cantenac, this Chateau has produced some outstanding quality and value wines.

2020 was a great year for Bordeaux. Vinous Media blessed this year with a 97-point review and said, "Two thousand-twenty is an exceptional vintage for Bordeaux, certainly the best in the 2018-2020 trilogy. Quality is very, very high."

Aging: In French Oak Barrels, 10% new.

Tasting Notes: 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 10% Semillón.

Reviews

Plenty of exotic saffron and apricot notes, but also the grippy minerality that Alto does so well. A little more flesh and less steel than in some vintages, but easily one of the best dry whites of the Médoc, always worth getting hold of. Good length, really stretches out and emphasises the salinity and scrape on the finish. 10% new oak. Harvest stated in August for the first time, on the 31st, finishing on the 1st September, with grapes coming in during the early morning. Just 7,000-8,000 bottles per year. A very pretty white with sliced-apple, praline and vanilla aromas and flavors that follow through to a full body with creamy texture and a long, flavorful finish. Delicious white. ~92-93 James Suckling
