About the Wine

Owned by the Robin family since the 18th century and now managed by Alexandra and Nicolas Robin, Clos Grangeneuve benefits from the guidance of renowned oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt.

Clos Grangeneuve is a small estate producing classically styled Right Bank wines built on balance and authenticity. Predominantly planted to Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc, the vineyard reflects Pomerol’s clay-driven terroir, delivering supple texture, ripe dark fruit, and refined structure. It has earned a reputation as a value-conscious Pomerol, offering true appellation character without the prestige pricing of its more famous neighbors.

The vineyard sits on clay-rich soils with gravel components—hallmark Pomerol terroir ideally suited for Merlot. These soils contribute mid-palate depth, polished tannins, and textural finesse, while maintaining freshness and overall balance.

Clos Grangeneuve consistently delivers strong value, crafted with the same care and precision seen at distinguished neighbors such as Château La Pointe, Château Rouget, and Château Les Cabanes.

The grapes are hand-harvested, rigorously sorted, and undergo extended maceration for deep color and structured tannins. Malolactic fermentation in oak barrels adds texture and complexity, followed by 14 months of aging in French oak for depth, integration, and finesse.

The 2020 vintage shows classic Pomerol polish and power—a beautifully executed blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon with serious aging potential.

Vinous Media awarded the 2020 vintage 98 points, claiming: “Quality is exceptionally high".

Tasting Notes

Deep garnet with flashes of purple, it opens with ripe dark berries, black cherry, cedar, and a whisper of vanilla.

The palate is plush and commanding—velvety tannins wrapped around layers of blackberry, plum, and dark chocolate.

Balanced acidity keeps everything lifted and precise, driving a long, seamless finish.

Critical Reviews

Inky dark purple colour. Fragrant aromas of wild berries, violet, fine oak and spice box. The palate shows good volume and roundness, still youthful but grainy tannin, a fresh acidity underneath the sweet fruit, some herbaceous notes and a fine length. ~ 91 Andreas Larsson, Tasted

A medium-bodied, juicy red with spiced dark fruits and notes of chocolate and grilled herbs. Dusty tannins and a polished texture with a flavorful, slightly chewy finish. Drink or hold. ~ 90 James Suckling
