About the Wine
Bodega Luigi Bosca’s 2020 Paraiso is a stunning expression of Argentine winemaking—an extraordinary wine born from over 120 years of dedication and innovation. With its roots deeply embedded in the rich soils of Mendoza, this is the culmination of four generations of the Arizu family’s passion and expertise.
Founded in 1901, Luigi Bosca has long been a leader in producing some of the world’s most sought-after wines. The 2020 Paraiso is a proud reflection of that legacy, showcasing the family’s commitment to creating wines that combine tradition with innovation, all while respecting the environment.
At the heart of this exceptional wine lies Finca El Paraíso, the family’s oldest and most iconic estate. Located at the foot of the Andes, this vineyard has been the source of countless breakthroughs in Argentine winemaking since it was founded by Leoncio Arizu in 1926. With its vast, diverse vineyard that includes a wide range of varietals such as Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Chardonnay, Finca El Paraíso is the place where Luigi Bosca’s most celebrated wines come to life. The château-style house that has stood on the property for generations is not only a home but a testament to the enduring vision and legacy of the Arizu family.
This is a wine that’s not just meant to be enjoyed now, but to be savored over time. With its impeccable structure and vibrant flavors, the 2020 Paraiso will continue to evolve beautifully in the bottle, making it a perfect addition to any collector’s cellar.
Aging: 12 months, 74% aged in used barrels, 21% in foudres, and 5% was left unoaked.
Tasting Notes
83% Malbec, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2020 Paraiso is a wine that captures the essence of this storied estate. In the glass, it’s a deep, vibrant red, with a richness and intensity that immediately draws you in. The nose is filled with a beautiful balance of fresh red fruits—think ripe cherries and plums—accented by subtle notes of spice, tobacco, and a touch of vanilla. On the palate, it’s smooth and elegant, with a soft, velvety texture that’s complemented by a perfect balance of acidity and tannins. The fruit-forward profile is expertly integrated with the wine’s oak aging, creating a seamless and sophisticated experience from start to finish. The finish is long, persistent, and perfectly poised, offering a glimpse into the wine’s impressive aging potential.
Critical Reviews
This is the second version of Paraíso, and this year it's 55% Altamira, 34% Gualtallary, and the remaining 11% from Las Compuertas. It's 83% Malbec and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2020 vintage was a warm one that produced wines with generous alcohol content, succulent fruit, and plenty of depth. A wine that feels enveloping and velvety. A red to cellar for a decade. Until the 2018 vintage, the winery's top wine was Icono, a red that came exclusively from the Los Nobles estate, Luigi Bosca's historic vineyard in Las Compuertas. Since the 2019 vintage, Paraíso has replaced Icono, and this time, Las Compuertas has been replaced with a Uco Valley base. ~95 Descorchados

The 2020 Paraíso is 83% Malbec and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon from Paraje Altamira (55%) and Gualtallary (34%) in the Uco Valley and Las Compuertas (11%) in Luján de Cuyo. It was 74% aged in used barrels, 21% in foudres, and 5% was left unoaked. A dark purple hue. The nose presents potent balsamic aromas along with ripe plum and bay leaf against a refined, oaky backdrop. The 2020 is a big, bold wine. A subtly juicy mouthfeel complements the ripe, refined tannins before the long-lasting finish of ripe fruit. ~94 Vinous Media
Red blend composed of 83% Malbec (mostly from Altamira, with parts from Gualtallary and Vistalba) and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon from Gualtallary, aged for 12 months, partly in foudres and partly in French oak barrels. It shows ripe red and black fruits at just the right point, even for a warmer year like 2020, and also with a greater sensation of freshness compared to 2019. Structured and refined, it has firm, fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity and a dense, persistent finish, with reductive touches of violets, blackberries, herbs, graphite and licorice, which invite a second glass. Alcohol 15%. ~94 Revista Adega
Winemaker Pablo Cúneo sources grapes from vineyards in the Uco Valley to make this juicy and bountiful blend of Malbec and Cabernet. The nose offers balanced aromas of strawberry jam and vanilla bean. Flavors of pomegranate, cherry, strawberry, and raspberry mixed with notes of oak spices and hints of linden leaf and rosemary. It has a soft mouthfeel and a long finish. ~93 Wine Enthusiast
A creamy, full-bodied red with aromas of beetroot, blackberries, black plums, roasted hazelnuts and mint chocolate. Ripe, broad tannins here. Soft and caressing texture yet powerful and lingering. 71% malbec and 29% cabernet sauvignon. Drink or hold. ~93 James Suckling
