About the Wine
Tua Rita is a name that carries weight in the world of wine, especially among collectors and connoisseurs. If you're in the know, you understand the allure of Tua Rita's offerings, and the 2020 Tua Rita 'Per Sempre' Syrah Toscana IGT is no exception.
Born from the passion of Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti, the winery began its journey in 1984 when they purchased 37.5 acres of land. The land was carefully cultivated with Cabernet and Merlot, and later expanded to 55 acres. The Tua Rita winery has since become a landmark in Tuscany, known for producing wines that are bold, balanced, and consistently praised by critics. In just a short time, their 100% Merlot became iconic, receiving perfect 100-point scores from Robert M. Parker Jr. and rave reviews from wine lovers worldwide.
This wine is a perfect reflection of Tua Rita’s philosophy: wines that combine old-world craftsmanship with new-world intensity. The Syrah is rich and vibrant, with deep, dark fruit flavors that unfold over time. But it’s not just about the fruit; the wine has layers of complexity, with subtle hints of spice and earthiness that add depth and character. The tannins are refined, the finish is long and smooth, and the balance is impeccable.
Tua Rita wines aren’t the easiest to find—they are highly sought after and often hard to come by, even in Italy. But here at Big Hammer Wines, we’ve secured an exclusive opportunity for you to experience this world-class wine. Don’t wait—this is the kind of wine that sells out fast, and when it’s gone, it’s gone.

Critical Reviews
Seductive aromas of violets, blackberries, blueberries, flowers and sandalwood. Sophisticated. Full-bodied with super-fine tannins and good length. Classy and superb. Such balance. Hints of sweet tobacco and berries at the end. You can drink it now, but it will age for decades. ~99 James Suckling
This new vintage is just terrific because it marries a sunny growing season with a grape like Syrah, which thrives in these conditions. The Tua Rita 2020 Syrah Per Sempre embraces juicy, full-bodied fruit with lots of blackberry, plum, sweet spice and campfire ash. Stefano Frascolla deliberately seeks to avoid any eucalyptus or camphor-like overtones. He looks for bold primary fruit instead. This is achieved through fruit ripeness, vineyard care and oak management. Syrah has a short harvest window, so timing is important. The vineyards are planted in marl soils with schistic material that is typical of the mineral-rich hills surrounding Suvereto. The wine goes from barrique to botte grande for an additional two or three months to stretch its legs. The 2019 vintage is gorgeous, but this expression from 2020 has more power and heft. ~97 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Deep and intense, it displays notes of black plums, blackberries, dark chocolate, crushed stone, graphite, cumin, juniper berries, sandalwood and cloves. Full body, perfectly ripe, very fine grained tannins and a beautifully formed finish that displays grace, elegance and character. One of the best Forevers ever! Drink now. ~97 WinesCritic.com
The nose is an acrobatic oscillation among savory, sweet and floral aromas, as notes of smoke, spices and pepper brighten into dancing sugar plums, then soften into vanilla cream. The palate maintains the remarkable intersection of spice and perfume, but a deep earth element brings in a savory, sanguine contrast. Tannins are gorgeously sculpted but imposing, like classical statues, while acid is linear and directed, like the artist's chisel. ~96 Wine Enthusiast
Per Sempre is one parcel of 18 rows planted in 1988, equating to 0.5ha and 3,000 bottles. Unlike the tava-vinified Keir Syrah, this spends about 17 months in new barriques. Less perfumed and vertical, Per Sempre is instead fleshy and generous, with more complexity and palate width. Intense crushed black berries are framed by wood, with some floral overtones and a streak of red fruit. Earthy and dusty tones are followed by mid-palate tension and sapidity, finishing on a slightly smoky note along with pressed violets. Class. ~96 Decanter
