About the Wine
The 2021 Accornero Campo Moro Barbera Piemonte is everything you want in a red—approachable, juicy, and full of personality—yet steeped in a winemaking tradition that dates back to 1897. That’s over a century of dedication from the Accornero family, now five generations strong. They’ve been perfecting the art of winemaking for years, always with one goal in mind: produce wines that show their love for the land and respect for the past, while pushing forward to capture the essence of the future.
The Accornero family’s journey began with Bartolomeo, who set out to produce high-quality wines back in the 1800s. Fast forward to today, and you’ve got Giulio, Ermanno, and Massimo—three generations of Accorneros who have helped elevate the Vignale Monferrato area to its deserved fame.
The Barbera grapes for this wine are grown in the Casale Monferrato area, where the vineyards stretch across the hills to the Po River. Here, the land is steeped in history, with rich, calcareous soils that date back to the Miocene era. These “white lands” are perfect for growing Barbera, producing wines that are bold in color and full of character. The local infernot cellars—cool, underground storage caves carved into the earth—have been a part of this region’s winemaking culture for centuries. In fact, they’re so special that UNESCO has recognized them as a World Heritage Site.
Barbera is a "workhorse grape," loved for its approachable nature, bright acidity, and smooth, low tannins. It’s a wine that pairs effortlessly with Piedmont’s hearty fare—think rich tomato sauces, salumi, and aged cheeses. But don’t let the easy-drinking nature fool you. The 2021 Accornero Campo Moro packs plenty of personality. After a controlled fermentation and six months in stainless steel, it’s bottled to perfection—pleasant, fruity, and endlessly drinkable.
Wine Spectator sums it up perfectly: “Barbera is a workhorse grape that is enjoyed by the Piedmontese on a day-to-day basis.”
This is a wine made for easy sipping—no fuss, just good flavors that you’ll want to pour again and again. Perfect for a laid-back evening or a casual meal.
Tasting Notes
100% Barbera.
The palate is juicy and refreshing, with bright fruit flavors that are easy to enjoy—crisp red fruit, a hint of plum, and just enough acidity to keep everything in balance. The tannins are soft, making it incredibly smooth and approachable, while the clean finish leaves you with a touch of cherry and a nice little nod to its earthy, mineral roots.
