About the Offer

In the local dialect, Sorì refers to the hillside facing south, while Tildin was the diminutive of Clotilde (Angelo Gaja’s grandmother).

The Gaja family landed in Piemonte from Spain in the 17th century. Following WWII, Giovanni Gaja acquired large vineyard holdings in the area.

His son, Angelo, is considered one of the pioneers of modern winemaking in Italy. After studying wine in Montpellier, he was one of the first to bring French techniques such as barrique barrel aging, malolactic fermentation, and modern technical innovations. By raising the level and recognition of Nebbiolo, Angelo Gaja has been commended by every major wine publication in the world and acknowledged as an innovator.

Today, his two daughters Gaia and Rossana manage the extensive land holdings and global distribution of this important brand.

Gaja oversees 100 hectares of prime Piedmont vineyards, producing 18 different wines rooted in the region’s greatest grapes—Nebbiolo, Barbera, and a handful of carefully chosen French varieties. Under visionary leadership, the estate has evolved into one of Italy’s most influential producers, achieving global prestige on par with icons like Château Lafite Rothschild and Champagne Krug.

Wines Included

The nose bursts with lavender, plum, dark cherry, and blackberry, woven through with earth, spice, underbrush, and a cool hit of mint.

The palate is full, expansive, and deeply textured, opening with sweet licorice and violet before rolling into a lush, fruit-packed finish.

Lively acidity keeps everything lifted, while the round, polished tannins add finesse and definition. Bold, aromatic, and beautifully balanced.

Critical Reviews

Subtle and complex aromas of blackberries, pine needles, bark, light spices and violets. It’s really perfumed and attractive. Full-bodied and chewy, but the tannins are very, very fine. It goes on for minutes. This is a brooding, muscular wine but it is very refined. One for the cellar. Best after 2028.~ 98 James Suckling

A spiced profile emerges from the 2021 Barbaresco Sori Tildin, which has a bright red color and offers notes of ripe black cherries, graphite, wet stones, and darker minerals. There’s more power and backbone in this wine, as well as more depth and structure. It’s remarkably focused, with ripe tannins, fantastic purity and balance, and ripe mineral undercurrents. These 2021s are some of the best wines I’ve ever tasted from Gaja, and this one has great potential for the long haul. ~ 98 Jeb Dunnuck

This Nebbiolo delivers a deeply savory experience with a subtle, ethereal aroma reminiscent of incense in a quiet church. Aromas of fresh raspberry, rose and crushed stone lift from the glass as the wine opens. The wine showcases firm, high-toned tannins and a concentrated cherry character—imagine split cherries soaking in their juices and warming slowly. Savory herbs complement the dense fruit, with the tannins providing a finely structured, mouthwatering finish. Drink from 2026. ~ 97 Wine Enthusiast

Rich and almost creamy in texture, this detailed red evokes cherry, strawberry, rose, iron, tobacco and sweet spice aromas and flavors. Well-defined by lively acidity, with dense tannins lending support, this is balanced and harmonious, yet should benefit from two to three year of aging. Shows superb finesse and length. Best from 2027 through 2050. 200 cases imported. ~ 97 Wine Spectator

Thanks to its elegant minerality, this wine is often the easiest to recognize among the trio of single-vineyard Barbarescos made by the Gaja family. The 2021 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn offers a pretty combination of red and purple berry fruits followed by dusty tones of crushed graphite and pencil shaving. Those elements reinforce the lovely freshness and vertical brightness of Nebbiolo. The Sorì Tildìn tannins are linear, fine and chalky in texture. ~ 97 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Gaja

Piedmont, Italy

Gaja is Italy’s modern icon, a family estate that revolutionized Piedmont by uniting Barbaresco and Barolo tradition with cutting-edge precision. Founded in 1859 and led to global fame by Angelo Gaja, the winery farms some of Piedmont’s most prized crus, crafting bold, structured wines from Nebbiolo, Barbera, and select French varieties.

With 100 hectares across Barbaresco, Barolo, and beyond, Gaja has earned a reputation on the level of the world’s greatest estates—often compared to legends like Château Lafite Rothschild and Champagne Krug—for its relentless pursuit of purity, power, and perfection.
