About the Wine
Livio Felluga is credited with innovating and mastering modern winemaking in Italy. Back from WWII, he sealed a deep bond with the hillsides of Friuli by reviving the vineyards of Rosazzo. He is regarded as “the patriarch of the wines of Friuli." Created by Livio Felluga’s children, who dedicated the wine to him for his 85th birthday, Illivio reflects the personality of the family’s “patriarch,” uniting strength with elegance. This family affair born on the slopes of Italy's illustrious white wine providence is further evidence of the Felluga's innate ability to craft some of the region's most sought-after wines.
He chose an ancient map of the area to create an iconic label to tell the world the story of his wines. Pioneering vision, deep knowledge, respect for the vineyards, and obsession with quality, embodied by Livio Felluga himself, have been proudly carried out by the company over the years.
Today, the family-owned winery is led by Livio‘s son, Andrea Felluga. Known for producing lush, crisp, and well-balanced wines. The winery‘s reputation extends well beyond the region of Friuli, and its wines are recognized in a class with the most esteemed producers from around the world.
Aging: 10 months in oak barrels on the lees.
Tasting Notes
Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay, and Picoli. The color is an intense straw yellow. fragrant and elegant with notes of white peach and candied citrus peel and hints of perfectly blended woods. The class of the Pinot Bianco, the volume of the Chardonnay, and the sweetness of the Picolit are in balance.
Critical Reviews
Tropical fruit aromas of mangoes and papayas with some fresh lilacs and white peaches. Medium- to full-bodied with dried apples and lemons as well as intense acidity. Tangy and crisp with a racy and energetic finish. Drink or hold. ~95 James Suckling
A supremely delicious wine from the accomplished Livio Felluga winery made from grapes in the small Rosazzo DOCG, Terre Alte is a blend of Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon Blanc vinified first in stainless steel then completed in oak. Soft peach, mango and hints of ripe green fruits rise from the glass, while the intense and flinty core is wrapped in layers of generous tropical flavours. Smoky and creamy touches lurk in the background, showcasing oak ageing on the lees. Fresh, indulgent and stylish. ~93 Decanter
Livio Felluga is one of the most respected producers of Friuli, dedicating his life to reviving high-quality and sustainable viticulture in the hills of this north-eastern, Adriatic-influenced Italian countryside. He emigrated from Istria and established his property in Brazzano in the 1950s, buying up old, neglected vineyards and rejuvenating them. Illuvio was created in 1998 by Livio Felluga’s children, who dedicated the wine to him for his 85th birthday. Unlike his signature varietal series, done in stainless, this blend of Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Picolit was fermented and aged in small oak casks on lees. Perfumed white peach, apricot, quince, fresh green herbs, and almond floods the creamy palate, cushioned by wood, but held taut with a brace of stony acidity which carries this through a lingering finish. Quite impressive. ~92 Gismondi on Wine
Clear straw yellow. Compact and elegant on the nose with notes of pineapple and pear with a hint of hazelnut. Juicy on the palate with subtle texture, vivid acidity and a persistent finish. ~92 Falstaff
A graceful, layered white, fresh and salty on the palate, this offers finely meshed flavors of persimmon, Marcona almond and poached apricot, with delicate notes of lemon thyme and orange peel. Medium-bodied, this expands on the palate and lingers, revealing more salinity on the finish. Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Picolit. Drink now through 2031. 100 cases imported. ~91 Wine Spectator
