About the Wine

Socré Società Semplice Agricola is one of Barbaresco’s hidden treasures—an unbroken family legacy dating back to 1869, when the Piacentino ancestors settled in Barbaresco and began cultivating Nebbiolo on the region’s sacred hills.

Over generations, the family transformed the estate: from Benedetto Piacentino’s vineyard redesign in 1958—elevating Nebbiolo as the estate’s beating heart—to the 1990s expansion into Langhe and Roero under Marco and Rosella, supported by their sons Giulio and Lorenzo.

A major leap forward came between 2010 and 2012 with the construction of a new cellar, allowing Socré to vinify every grape from their estate holdings with precision. Since then, the winery has earned growing acclaim, collecting medals and praise from respected critics and guides.

Today, Socré seamlessly blends deep-rooted tradition with modern craftsmanship. Their estate-made wines honor Barbaresco’s heritage while showcasing the purity, structure, and soul of Nebbiolo—crafted by a family that has lived and breathed this land for more than 150 years.

It’s in this context that 2021 emerges as a truly extraordinary vintage. Both Robert Parker and Vinous Media awarded the year 96 points, noting: “2021 is shaping up to be a magnificent vintage for Barbaresco. The best wines are marvelously complete, offering a captivating mix of energy, structure, depth, and plenty of site character.”

Socré’s 2021 Barbaresco embodies exactly that—a wine of class and power, where elegance meets structure and the tannins are firm, dense, and built for the long haul. Designed to age 15–20 years, it rewards patience but already shows impressive presence. Serve it just below room temperature in large crystal stemware to release its full aromatic spectrum.

When it comes to food, this Barbaresco shines effortlessly—from red meats and roast poultry to Piedmont’s iconic tajarin or ravioli layered with rich meat ragù. It’s a wine that elevates any meal and commands attention from the first pour to the final drop.

Tasting Notes

100% Nebbiolo.

Its garnet-red hue sets the stage for an intense, refined nose bursting with violet, cherry jam, and Nebbiolo purity.

Crafted exclusively from Nebbiolo and aged 18 months in seasoned French oak, the wine then rests in concrete before bottling, ensuring polish, depth, and authenticity in every sip.

Critical Reviews

~ 92 Vintage, Luca Maroni

The 2021 Barbaresco is a bold, super-expressive wine. Dark cherry, blood orange, menthol, spice, new leather, licorice and mocha are front and center. Bold and racy in the glass, with terrific persistence, the 2021 has a lot to offer. It's a fine effort in its peer group; that much is obvious. This is beautifully done. ~ 92 Vinous Media
