About the Wine

Haut-Brisson is a small chateau that sits on the highly desirable limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion. With old vines and a well-maintained property, the wines from this estate are gracefully ageing beauties.

Since 1997 the Chateau has been operated by Vignobles K, owned by Peter Kwok. Peter, born in Vietnam, was for many years a renowned banker and finances expert in China. Peter managed to see his great love for France materialize in form of a 750ml bottle. He believes that with a combination of excellent terroir, the right equipment, the best workers and tons of patience, an exceptional wine can be made.

Vignobles K is a family business established in 2014 and its formed by 7 vineyards located in some of the best Bordeaux appellations: Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Lalande-de-Pomerol, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux.

The winemaker is a born and raised Basque named Jerome Aguirre. He began his winemaking experience in his homeland and worked with Jean-Claude Berrouet's (former winemaker at Château Petrus and Château Trotanoy). 100pt Wine consultan Michell Rolland consults here.

Tasting Notes

 95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc.

An intense nose with black fruit and floral aromas of orange blossom. The wood is still present but shows its charming side. In the mouth the attack is fruity on the palate with beautiful hints of strawberry jam. The wine presents a very nice concentration, perfectly controlled, with silky tannins still present at this point but without harshness. A good balance between sweetness and power, the wood is well-integrated. The finish has considerable fruit with a very light minerality.

Critical Reviews

A successful Haut-Brisson this year with a touch of graphite and minerals to the black cherries and peppery spices. Really juicy and fine-grained on the palate with firmness and spot-on balance. Very good length. Drink from 2027. ~94 James Suckling

The 2022 Château Haut-Brisson is impressive, with the vintage’s sun-kissed style, while staying more medium to full-bodied, pure, and elegant. Ripe black cherries, currants, crushed stone, and pressed flower notes all shine here, and I love its overall balance and finesse. Given its seamless style, it drinks well today, yet it has ripe, polished tannins and should evolve gracefully over the coming two decades. ~94 Jeb Dunnuck

Agile and dynamic in the sensory profile, it shows notes of red plums, wild strawberries, chopped almonds and chopped ginger. Medium-full body, soft tannins and a finish of great progression. Better from 2028. ~94 WinesCritic.com

As readers may remember, the 2022 Haut-Brisson is a blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Evoking aromas of cassis, mulberries and flowers, it's medium to full-bodied, round and enveloping with a juicy core of fruit, powdery tannins and a long, saline, chalky finish enhanced by a delicate reduction at this stage. This is one of the most gourmand offerings in the Vignobles K universe. ~92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Bordeaux, France

Château Haut‑Brisson is an 18-hectare wine estate in the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation of Bordeaux, France, situated across the villages of Saint-Émilion, Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens and Vignonet.

Founded within a mix of clay-limestone, gravel and sandy soils, the property produces predominantly Merlot-based wines that reflect the richness and maturity of its terroir. Acquired in 2019 by Bordeaux native Stéphane Schinazi, the domaine focuses on quality viticulture and sustainable practices, with manual harvesting and well-integrated oak aging that yield wines with depth, structure and expressive fruit.
