2022 was an extraordinary vintage for Bordeaux, it was blessed with a 97 pt review by Wine Spectator who said: "A beautiful vintage. Merlot berries were small and concentrated; Cabernet Franc also relished the conditions. Wines are very aromatic and sleek, with Pomerol and St.-Emilion excelling"
Aging: 12 months in barrels 50% new.
Tasting Notes
84% Merlot & 16% Cabernet Franc. Opens with a fine, creamy nose of vanilla, berries, plums, milk chocolate, and sweet spices. On the palate, it's juicy and fresh with a vibrant acidity that enhances the red berry and plum flavors. The tannins are silky smooth, supporting layers of black olive, orange rind, and crushed violet notes. The finish is persistent, with a touch of mint and soft spice, making this a wine that’s both sophisticated and built for aging.
Critical Reviews
A fine, creamy nose with vanilla, berries, plums, milk chocolate and sweet spices. Sleek, juicy and fresh on the palate, this has medium body and an expressive and persistent finish. The tannins are fully melted. Tempting now, but the flattering wood spices should better integrate in two to three years. Try after 2026. ~94 James Suckling
Vibrant colour, deep vivid purple. Amazingly scented, perfumed and expressive on the nose, vanilla, white chocolate, creamy red cherries, plums, raspberries, toast and liquorice. Juicy and sharp, high acidity makes the mark straight away before a clean, salty, stony texture comes through. Fruit is concentrated but also crisp and lively giving a sense of joy and energy, before the structure and power come in, focussing the wine into more of a straight line towards the pointed finish. Long and detailed with freshness and soft spiced elements from the Cabernet Franc. There’s a lot of tannins here but balanced by acidity. Feels like hands off winemaker, careful not to extract too much weight and mass. Ageing 12 months, 50% new, 50% one year. Earliest harvest ever starting on 5 September finishing on the 17th. A yield of 30hl/ha. Extraction was very gentle according to winemaker Eric Monneret. 'It was such a strong vintage with the risk of creating a monster. You have to accept not to take everything'. ~94 Decanter
A vibrant, refined, fresh, and silky style of Pomerol, with a core of sweet, lifted red berries and spice on the palate. The wine is soft with a polish to tis fruits, leaving you with a refreshing touch of crisp red pit fruits and mint in the endnote of the finish. Drink from 2025-2045. ~93 Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider
The 2022 La Pointe, matured in 50% new oak, has a tightly wound blackberry- and bilberry-scented bouquet that is very well defined with nicely integrated wood. It offers a lovely crushed violet aroma that gains intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pleasing sapidity, hints of black olive and touches of orange rind. It's structured and quite classic but with sufficient flesh on the finish. This is a very fine, sophisticated Pomerol that will age well in bottle. Don't overlook this. ~93 Neal Martin, Vinous Media
