About the Wine
Icon, noun. is "a person or thing regarded as a representative symbol or as worthy of veneration."
This wine? It’s the definition.
Meet the legend behind the bottle: Dominique Raimond.
They call him "the man who makes Malbec sing" - and honestly? The nickname fits. This guy owns Château Montfollet, a family-owned artisanal winery sitting pretty in Blaye and Cotes de Bourg. Two of Bordeaux's best-kept secrets.
The location is absolutely wild. Picture this: vineyards planted on killer red clay and limestone slopes overlooking the Gironde estuary. And get this - they're positioned right across from the prestigious Grands Crus de Margaux.
You can literally see million-dollar vineyards from here.
We're talking 148 acres of prime vineyard real estate, all managed with sustainable practices and HEV Level 3 certification. Because doing things right matters.
Here's what makes Dominique special: Born and raised in Bordeaux, coming from a legendary winemaking family. He's not just respected - he's the emblematic winemaker everyone in the region knows. Plus, he's president of Châteaux Solidaires, a prestigious cooperative from 1937 that includes 10 top properties, all focused on sharing Bordeaux magic with the world.
Montfollet wines are made at Châteaux Solidaires using cutting-edge technology - the kind that produces wines competing with bottles costing way more.
Here's the payoff: The Raimond name has earned serious street cred in Bordeaux's tough wine world. Today, Dominique's wines from Château Montfollet and Puy d'Amour get global recognition and rave reviews from the world's top wine critics.
Translation: You're getting serious Bordeaux craftsmanship at an absolute unbeatable price.
2022 is an absolutely stellar vintage for Bordeaux Right Bank. It was blessed with a 97-point review by Wine Spectator, who declared: "Wines are very aromatic and expressive. A beautiful vintage."
Aging: 8 months sur lees.
Tasting Notes
100% Sauvignon Blanc. Very bright robe, a complex nose of citrus fruits and woody hints, a beautiful minerality and a fleshy mouth. The best pairing is to share this wine with seafood or white meat or a fish casserole, but it can also be drunk as an aperitif or with refined cheeses.
Critical Reviews
A floral edge to the 100% Sauvignon Blanc aromatics with soft herbal flecks, vanilla and a bit of green fruit. Lively and forward, this excites on the palate, not super strict or tart, a lovely soft balance of acidity, florality and juiciness. Balanced and harmonious with green apple, lots of wet stone minerality and a creamy, light finish. Smooth and well handled. Still feels a little young, but very pretty. ~91 Decanter
Gooseberries, cedar, flint and hazelnuts on the nose. Creamy and rounded, full-bodied, with delicious spice and nutty undertones. Drink now. ~91 James Suckling
