About the Offer

In the local dialect, Sorì refers to the hillside facing south, while Tildin was the diminutive of Clotilde (Angelo Gaja’s grandmother).

The Gaja family landed in Piemonte from Spain in the 17th century. Following WWII, Giovanni Gaja acquired large vineyard holdings in the area.

His son, Angelo, is considered one of the pioneers of modern winemaking in Italy. After studying wine in Montpellier, he was one of the first to bring French techniques such as barrique barrel aging, malolactic fermentation, and modern technical innovations. By raising the level and recognition of Nebbiolo, Angelo Gaja has been commended by every major wine publication in the world and acknowledged as an innovator.

Today, his two daughters Gaia and Rossana manage the extensive land holdings and global distribution of this important brand.

Gaja oversees 100 hectares of prime Piedmont vineyards, producing 18 different wines rooted in the region’s greatest grapes—Nebbiolo, Barbera, and a handful of carefully chosen French varieties. Under visionary leadership, the estate has evolved into one of Italy’s most influential producers, achieving global prestige on par with icons like Château Lafite Rothschild and Champagne Krug.

Wines Included

A rush of sandalwood, cinnamon, violet, and ripe strawberry bursts from the glass, vibrant and seductive.

The palate confirms the intensity—full, elegant, and richly layered, with generous waves of red fruit wrapped in supple, mouth-filling, succulent tannins.

Luxurious, aromatic, and deeply expressive from start to finish.

Critical Reviews

Dark, deep and meaty Barbaresco with remarkable complexity. Oak-bark, camphor and balsamic aromas, together with dried black cherries and darker fruits. It’s more austere than overt on the nose, with deep-set, graceful Parma violets. Full-bodied, sleek and velvety with elegant tannins giving a sumptuous, refined texture, as well as freshness and an overall powerful finish. Eye-catching harmony due to such well-crafted power. Best from 2032. ~ 99 James Suckling

The 2022 Barbaresco Sori Tildin exhibits fresh aromas of black raspberries, orange peel, anise, and toasted spices. It has a more immediate feel initially, but there is lovely structure and a layered complexity that unfolds in the glass to back this up. A step up on the palate, I love this where this is now. It has fantastic detail, with ripe tannins and a long finish. It’s a true pleasure all around and offered a more complete feel at this tasting. ~ 98 Jeb Dunnuck

The 2022 Barbaresco Sorì Tildin is laced with brilliant red-toned fruit, mint, blood orange, chalk, dried flowers and white pepper. Even in this torrid, dry vintage, Sorì Tildin retains its super-classic feel and essential qualities, most specifically its focus. ~ 97 Vinous Media

Stepping up in structure and intensity compared to the Costa Russi, the Gaja 2022 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn exhibits broad shoulders and depth. It delivers a dark fruit character surrounded by hints of campfire ash and crushed mineral. There is always a vein of ferrous mineral in this wine, and you definitely get it in this vintage. It comes with pretty background aromas of sambuca, aniseed and spicy ginger. The tannins are superbly managed to offer finesse and firmness. ~ 96 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

A generous red, featuring a fleshy texture wrapped around cherry, raspberry, wild scrub and iron flavors. Though balanced, the finish is informed by tight, dusty tannins today. Offers a beautiful fruit profile; this just needs to come together. Best from 2029 through 2047. 200 cases imported. ~ 95 Wine Spectator

Gaja

Piedmont, Italy

Gaja is Italy’s modern icon, a family estate that revolutionized Piedmont by uniting Barbaresco and Barolo tradition with cutting-edge precision. Founded in 1859 and led to global fame by Angelo Gaja, the winery farms some of Piedmont’s most prized crus, crafting bold, structured wines from Nebbiolo, Barbera, and select French varieties.

With 100 hectares across Barbaresco, Barolo, and beyond, Gaja has earned a reputation on the level of the world’s greatest estates—often compared to legends like Château Lafite Rothschild and Champagne Krug—for its relentless pursuit of purity, power, and perfection.
