About the Wine
Hundred Acre is one of those estates where, if you know, you know. The quality of the wines made here is nearly impossible to describe without reaching for words like ethereal, sublime, and perfection. These highly coveted bottles regularly flirt with the upper limits of possibility. In fact, the ARK bottling has only ever scored outside the 90s five times in its history—and each of those earned 100 points. There’s only so much praise one winery can receive, which is why Hundred Acre no longer pursues critical ratings.
The force behind it all is Jayson Woodbridge, who founded Hundred Acre in 1998. Remarkably, by just his second vintage, his wines landed on the Wine Spectator Top 100, and between 2002 and 2015, they amassed more than twenty perfect 100-point scores from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. A run that cemented Hundred Acre as one of Napa Valley’s most elite cult estates.
That same relentless pursuit of greatness later fueled the revival of Fortunate Son, where, after years of searching for the right vineyard sites, Jayson introduced The Dreamer, The Diplomat, and The Warrior. Sourced from small, family-owned vineyards and crafted in Hundred Acre’s state-of-the-art underground winery, these wines reflect the same obsessive attention to detail and site expression that defines his flagship estate.
The 2022 growing season provided ideal conditions to carry that legacy forward. Generous winter rains replenished the reservoirs, followed by long stretches of sunshine and summer heat. A rare late-season rain washed dust from the berries and ushered in a gentle cooling trend—setting up a perfectly timed final ripening push in the fall. With fruit hanging longer than most, intensity built naturally, resulting in wines with explosive fruit expression and a full-bodied, powerful core.
This release extends the estate’s historic run of greatness, offering immediate appeal alongside decades of cellar-worthy potential—a must for serious collectors.
As James Suckling puts it, the wines of Hundred Acre are “eccentrically precise with their full-throttle nature.” Of the 2022 vintages, he adds they are “phenomenally seamless and not overpowering, with everything in the right place.”
2022 Hundred Acre Morgan’s Way Cabernet Sauvignon stands as the clearest expression of that vision. Drawn from a single vineyard east of St. Helena, it delivers a bold statement of precision, purity, and opulence, capturing everything that defines California’s most coveted cult wines.
Aged for 34 months in 100% new French oak (10% in 500L puncheons).
ABV: 15%
Tasting Notes
100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
A true showstopper in the glass. Bursts of red and black fruit collide with warm brioche, vanilla, and a flicker of black pepper. The aromatics keep unfolding—saddle leather, crushed limestone, and dried herbs rise with every swirl.
On the palate, richness meets approachability, layering earth, fruit, and spice in seamless rhythm. Expansive yet silky, velvety tannins frame flavors of dark cherry and blackberry, driving a finish that’s smooth, lingering, and unmistakably refined.
Critical Reviews
The aromas of blackberries, black cherries, spices, orange peel and chocolate follow through to full-bodied palate with round and juicy tannins and a long finish with hints of hazelnuts at the end. It’s savory and juicy, with lots going on. Fresh finish. Soft tannins. Elegant and fine. Seductive. Drink or hold. ~ 98 James Suckling
Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine hails from Hundred Acre’s estate Morgan’s Way Vineyard (formerly Kayli Morgan), a 3.6-hectare site located north of St. Helena on the eastern side of Silverado Trail at the base of Howell Mountain. Named after Jayson Woodbridge’s daughter, Morgan, the vineyard produces fruit of exceptional concentration and purity. The wine is aged for at least 34 months in extremely fine, centre-cut French oak barriques with ultra-tight grain. The result is a profoundly smooth and graceful Cabernet Sauvignon, its suave tannins enveloping the palate with ripe currant and black cherry fruit. The depth of flavour is extraordinary, unfolding into notes of crushed blood orange and cocoa nibs on a finish that seems to go on forever. Undeniably beautiful—this is a wine to revere. ~ 98 Decanter
