About the Wine
When Thomas Rivers Brown—the hand behind legendary Schrader Cellars, Wine & Food Magazine's Winemaker of the Year, and multiple 100-point scores—crafts only 900 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine world pays attention. The 2022 Revana Cabernet Sauvignon is one of our top picks from this highly esteemed vintage.
This is textbook Napa Valley Cab: rich, structured, and profoundly age-worthy.
At the heart of this estate is Dr. Madaiah Revana, a cardiologist whose passion for viticulture has built a global reputation. Remarkably, Dr. Revana is the sole immigrant from India to own three wineries—in Napa Valley, Willamette Valley, and Uco Valley, Argentina—all of which have earned a prestigious place on Wine Spectator's Top 100 lists.
The winemaking lineage at Revana is a "who’s who" of industry icons. After Heidi Peterson Barrett established the winery's reputation, Thomas Rivers Brown joined in 2011 to continue the pursuit of perfection. Today, the team includes Geoff Davies (formerly of Outpost Wines) and legendary Vineyard Manager Jim Barbour. Together, they maintain a "high-touch" philosophy, producing only 4,000 total cases annually across the entire portfolio to ensure world-class quality in every bottle.
Revana’s sole focus is the artistry of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. While the foundation is their 8.2-acre estate in the St. Helena AVA, this 2022 release gains its immense complexity by sourcing fruit from Napa’s finest vineyard sites, including:
- Edcora Vineyard (Atlas Peak): Adding volcanic depth and structure.
- Shifflett Ranch (Oak Knoll District): Providing elegance and balance.
-
Panek Vineyard (St. Helena): Famous for its rich, expressive fruit profile.
This wine is a profound homage to Dr. Revana’s heritage, telling a story through the soil—from the volcanic Aiken Stoney Clay loam to the gravel and sand of hillside erosion. Every element contributes to a wine that is pure luxury.
Aging: 20 months barrel aged - 60% New French Oak, 40% Second-use French Oak.
Tasting Notes
Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with a touch of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The wine presents soft tannins that provide a smooth mouthfeel, along with chocolatey undertones that offer a sensory allure. The combination of brambly berry and baking spice notes complements robust dark fruit flavors and elegant tannins. WOW! We love this wine.
Critical Reviews
The 2022 Revana Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley is sourced from multiple vineyard sites and showcases its pedigree with a deep violet-black hue in the glass. Aromas of blackberry compote, roasted coffee beans, and graphite unfurl slowly, giving way to nuances of dried thyme and warm slate. On the palate, it unfolds with layers of plum preserves, bittersweet cocoa, and cigar box, underpinned by earthy tones of crushed basalt and savory spice. The mouthfeel is broad yet polished, with generous fruit weight balanced by fine tannins and an undercurrent of vibrant acidity. ~95 pts International Wine Report
A gorgeous new edition of this wine that is coming from several sites throughout the Napa Valley, this 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon stands inky in the glass, offering rich dark currant and tobacco leaf flavors that collide with loamy soils and dark chocolate shavings on the palate. The pillowy texture really entices. Full-bodied and delicious, enjoy now and over the next ten plus years. Drink 2025-2035 ~94 Owen Bargreen
