About the Offer

To Kalon is a cult classic, Decanter called it “a vineyard regarded as California’s crown jewel thanks to its enduring renown for producing world-class, top-scoring Cabernet Sauvignon.”

To Kalon dates back to 1860, when H.W Crabb planted his first vines that would soon grow into thick high-quality grapes. The vineyard, also known as “Napa’s most famous vineyard” is located between the sheltering Vaca and Mayacamas mountain ranges in Napa Valley. Its outstanding terroir made up of well-drained, gravelly soils, along with the ideal weather, sun, wind, and fog is the perfect combination to deliver strong, complex grapes. These optimal conditions and the expert hands of Andy Erickson have resulted in outstanding, wines of the highest quality.

Andy Erickson is a Rockstar in the world of wine. His journey includes working in some of the most outstanding terroirs in the world, like Mendoza, and in the USA in Napa Valley, Sonoma, where he worked with Paul Hobbs, John Kongsgaard, and Michel Rolland. He’s also the man behind Screaming Eagle wines.

Andy says, “To kalon vineyard excites me. You can’t see the diversity from the surface, but underneath, it’s a patchwork of sites, each with its own unique expression.”

To Kalon Vineyard Company’s “Eliza’s” is an exciting blend of Cab Franc and Cab Sauvignon, the two grapes that “best showcase the strength and spirit of this historic site at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains.”

In 2022 — a hot vintage built around drought and a Labor Day heatwave — winemaker Tony Biagi went 54% Cabernet Franc, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon. The result, in Wine Advocate's words, is smoother and more elegant than the Highest Beauty, full-bodied but open-knit, with leafy and floral notes lifted against a backdrop of black cherry and dusty earth.

This is the bottle you bring out when you want to surprise a Napa Cab drinker. Same legendary vineyard, but a side of it almost no one gets to taste.

Wines Included

54% Cabernet Franc and 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 100% new French oak.

The nose opens with violets, tobacco leaf, and espresso, lifted by hints of iron and graphite.

The palate brings blackcurrant, black olive, black cherry, and grilled-rosemary savor — concentrated and full-bodied, but lighter on its feet than a typical Oakville Cab Sauv.

Hedonistic and forward, with leafy and floral edges and dusty-earth complexity. Drinkable now, with the structure to evolve over the next decade.

Critical Reviews

So floral, fresh but rich, this blend contains a majority of cabernet franc aged in 100% new oak. Powerful, concentrated and alive in aromas of violets, tobacco leaf and espresso, together with iron, graphite, blackcurrant, black-olive and grilled-rosemary flavors. While concentrated and deep, it's a bit lighter and more elegant than more cabernet sauvignon-heavy blends. Drinkable now and best from 2030. ~ 96 James Suckling

The 2022 Eliza's Red Wine is 54% Cabernet Franc and 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, which is a bit less Franc than in 2021, despite winemaker Tony Biagi's assertion that this variety stood out in 2022. It's certainly a bit smoother and more elegant than the 2022 Highest Beauty but remains full-bodied and open-knit, marked by leafy and floral notes set against a backdrop of black cherries and dusty earth. Hedonistic and forward, it should be consumed over the next decade or so. ~ 95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
