About the Wine
Trimbach isn’t just one of Alsace’s top producers — it’s THE producer. Their Rieslings and Gewurztraminers are legendary, racking up awards year after year. But here’s the secret the wine world is catching onto: Trimbach’s Pinot Noir is absolutely mind-blowing. Wine Spectator called it "graceful and intense" — but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Since the 16th century, twelve generations of the Trimbach family have been revolutionizing the wine game. Now, Pierre Trimbach, a Beaune-trained enologist, leads this powerhouse with a legacy that’s as bold as their wines.
The vineyards? Unbeatable. Alsace’s semi-continental climate delivers freezing winters that create the perfect conditions for their high-quality Riesling. And the terroir? Think marl, limestone, and sandstone — the kind of soils that make Trimbach wines unforgettable. With 140 acres of vines averaging 45 years old, planted across Ribeauvillé, Bergheim, and Hunawihr, every bottle is a testament to precision.
But let’s talk about this Pinot Noir. Grown in the exclusive Rotenberg vineyard, with red clay soils that rival Burgundy’s Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets, this wine is rare and special. Trimbach doesn’t just make wine; they create legends. And with over a decade of fully organic practices, you’re not just drinking luxury — you’re drinking history in the making.
Tasting Notes
100% Pinot Noir. Delicate aromas red and black berries underlined by subtle smoky and forest floor. Beautifully structured mouthfeel, combines fruitiness – Morello cherries and kirsch – with supple, velvety tannins and juicy freshness.
Critical Reviews
If you haven’t caught up with the Alsace pinot noir revolution, then this excellent example will bring you up to speed. Enticing sour cherry, wild blackberry and licorice aromas are wrapped around the beautifully crafted velvety tannins. Long finish with delicate earthy notes. Drinkable now, but best from 2025. ~93 James Suckling
The 2022 Pinot Noir Réserve is from various types of soils but mostly granite. It opens with a very aromatic and fruity nose of perfectly ripe cherries intermingled with tart spices. Macerated for just a little bit more than a week and aged in old foudres, this is an elegant and spicy, fresh and stimulating Pinot with sour cherry aromas on the tart and finely grippy finish. 13% alcohol. Granulate cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024. ~90 Wine Advocate
