About the Wine

Thurlow Cellars is a modern-day tribute to Napa Valley's elite winemaking tradition. Born in the high-elevation vineyards of Howell Mountain, Diamond Mountain, and Atlas Peak, this blend captures the essence of Napa Valley's prized terroir. Since 2016, Thurlow Cellars has been steadfast in its pursuit of excellence, operating with a deep respect for the land and a commitment to sustainable practices.

Winemaker Kevin Morrissey brings a singular vision to every barrel. A former NYU film student, Morrissey's career took an unlikely pivot from Hollywood to the legendary vineyards of Bordeaux, where he interned at Château Pétrus. That experience ignited a passion for winemaking that led him to Napa, where he honed his craft alongside celebrated vintners like Tony Soter at Stags' Leap and Etude.

The 2023 vintage is being hailed as one of the most exceptional in Napa Valley history. An unusually long, mild growing season gave the grapes extended hang time, resulting in wines with remarkable freshness, purity, and elegance. If you know Napa Cabernet — Silver Oak, Caymus, Opus One — this is the kind of vintage those producers dream about. The conditions were near-perfect, and small producers like Thurlow Cellars reaped the rewards.

Under Morrissey's meticulous hand, each vineyard block is de-stemmed separately into small stainless steel tanks, cold-soaked, then gently fermented for maximum extraction. Only nine barrels were crafted this vintage, relying exclusively on two elite coopers — Taransaud and St. Martin — to add subtle layers of complexity. Yields came in at a meager 1.8 tons per acre, capturing the intensity and character that only old, low-yielding vines can deliver. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, letting the true voice of the vineyard come through.

Tasting Notes

75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Syrah, 4% Merlot.

A full-bodied powerhouse of flavor in classic style. Rich, ripe fruit, focused tannins, and exotic spice with significant drive. A spin in the decanter allows it to open up, but the real magic will happen in 3–5 years.

Thurlow Cellars

Napa Valley, California

Thurlow Cellars is a boutique Napa producer rooted in the rugged mountain terroirs of Howell Mountain, Diamond Mountain, and Atlas Peak. Since 2016, the winery has focused on small-lot, sustainably farmed wines shaped by precision and minimal intervention. At the helm is winemaker Kevin Morrissey—an NYU-film-student-turned-Pétrus-trained craftsman whose Napa journey includes Stags’ Leap and Etude. His approach blends Old-World discipline with New-World boldness, resulting in wines that are structured, intensely expressive, and unmistakably Napa.
